As a new Farmer myself who bought our farm 4 years ago, I can’t tell you how accurate Clarkson’s Farm actually is! We spent £3.5m buying our farm and subsequently in the past 4 years we’ve had to spend at least £527,000 on farm machinery and much, much more on running the farm. We’ve lost money every year since so far, and have had challenges or refusal from local authorities everytime we’ve tried to diversity, or do something to generate extra income. I cannot stress how difficult it is for farmers who have to rely on farming for their only income. We don’t get any subsidies or BPS payments at all (because we’re new farmers) and the grant system might as well be in Greek! As a CEO and professional businessman of some note, I felt I could easily apply for the grants myself. I kid you not, you’ve never seen a more complicated form - for ANYTHING! The farm we bought had been in the same family for 3 generations, but it was sold because it was getting tougher to support the farmers growing family and now I’ve been in it for 4 years I can see why. It’s a crying shame that more and more food is going to be imported and more skills lost because, for some unknown reason, the government obviously don’t value farmers. Sad.

Two weeks ago, Peter Mandelson told us he had no recollection of planning to buy a £2m apartment in Rio via a Panama holding company and a Brazilian company. Yesterday we found notarised incorporation documents for the Brazilian company, with Mr Mandelson's signature.

What did @JeremyClarkson mean by this in 2010? "The only sound better than the Audi R8 V10 is the sound of Peter Mandelson being attacked by bears"
Blair, Brown, Campbell and Mandelson are largely responsible for the destruction of Britain.

❗️🥚 At Smithfield Market last night, a case of imported eggs from caged hens was photographed, clearly labelled “Not to UK standards,” at the same time the government announced new welfare reforms for England and Wales The contradiction is stark. The UK banned conventional cages in 2012, and the Government now intends to ban colony cages as well — yet conventional caged eggs are still allowed to be imported. If we are serious about animal welfare, there should be no imports permitted that do not meet the same standards UK farmers are required to produce to

25tBSC prices have taken another step lower widening the price range with reports of anything from £1.08 kg to £1.30kg ex works. The outlook for prices over the next 3wks is not great and at some stage deals will be struck sub £1 kg level. Spot milk prices same as previous week.

In Parliament yesterday, @DanielZeichner confirmed that he has known about this cliff edge for 5 years, and waved away criticism that closing the SFI scheme should be considered a sudden move. If we take him at his word, then this means in the 8 months since he assumed office he has deliberately done nothing about this issue. He has allowed farmers to put in a huge amount of effort and money preparing for SFI applications, knowing that some of them won't make it. He felt it was more important to avoid a rush of applications than to warn people, say in October last year, that applications would be cut off. It means he has been having review meetings on the issue, where they decide not to close the scheme as it approaches 70%, 80%, 90% of capacity, while his team prepared changes to the website so it could be shut on a moment's notice. It meant the system had been promising to give six week's notice to applicants before closure knowing that was false. Rather than the SFI debacle being a badly managed mess, it suggests deliberate cruelty. What sort of person keeps encouraging people to get into line for environmental projects knowing he is going to slam the door in their face? If the sudden closure of the scheme was "working as intended", what does that say about their regard for farmers? An alternative version would be that @SteveReedMP sent him to Parliament yesterday to try to obfuscate his way through this mess, and no-one thought through the implications of his position statement. Which do you think is right?

This guy is a fucking moron. An utter slap in the face for the families of the 600 plus British Soldiers who died fighting alongside America in Afghanistan & Iraq.
Hope is not a strategy to bring peace to Ukraine. The only person in town who seems to have a strategy is President Donald J. Trump.

We have issues with cars double parked on Rushup Edge and Man Nick on the road down to Edale. Our gritters cannot get through with around 200 cars in the area. Please move your car if you are in the area. If we can't get through neither would a bus or fire engine. Thanks.

The Ford Failure It probably doesn’t help that Ford stopped producing the Ka, Fiesta, Mondeo and soon the Focus, only to be replaced by £45k SUVs. Talk about dumping their bread and butter customers and chasing exec car priced SUVs. Make it make sense.
Ford will cut 4000 jobs in Europe, including 800 in the UK, due to concerns about the “health” of its passenger car business autocar.co.uk/car-news/consu…
