Unpopular opinion but a country's wealth and success should be measured by how well its poorest live, not by how obscenely rich its richest are.

Every time an African country elects a government that tries to keep more of its own resources, Western media discovers a "democracy deficit."
Every time an Asian nation builds technology that competes with Western products, Western governments discover a "security threat."
Every time a Latin American country charts an economic path outside the Washington Consensus, Western financial institutions discover a "stability risk."
The pattern is precise and it has been precise for two centuries.
The West is not afraid of authoritarian governments.
It has funded dozens of them.
The West is not afraid of economic mismanagement.
It has imposed structural adjustment programs that produced exactly that.
What produces the alarm, the specific, urgent, editorial-board-meeting alarm, is independence.
A poor country making its own choices with its own resources for its own people without asking permission.
That is the danger.
That has always been the danger.
Everything else is the vocabulary chosen to describe it in ways that don’t require honesty.

Call me whatever you want, but I believe a society's goal should be to secure the highest quality of life and happiness for its citizens, not to endlessly generate capital for the ownership class at everyone else's expense.
I’m trying very hard not to call you a moron because I’m in a good mood today.
In 2025, Niger’s military government ordered three senior Chinese oil executives linked to CNPC, the SORAZ joint-venture refinery, and the West African Oil Pipeline Company to leave the country within 48 hours. They left as ordered. No coup, no regime change, no destabilisation campaign.
There are other cases of Chinese businesses being expelled or pushed out of countries across the Global South, not just in Africa, and the Chinese have often simply taken the loss and moved on. Can you say the same about your European and American colonial masters?
And while we’re at it, I want you to prove me wrong. Show me a record of Chinese loans or infrastructure deals that are demonstrably worse than comparable Western deals. I’m genuinely open to being corrected, but I want evidence, not recycled talking points about debt traps. From what I’ve seen, Chinese financing often comes with more attractive terms than people care to acknowledge, even if the conditions vary considerably from one deal to another.
You claim the CPC is more brutal than its Western counterparts. On what material basis? What exactly are we comparing? Colonial massacres, imperialist wars, regime-change operations, and the exploitation of entire continents, or are we pretending Western history began yesterday?
So far, what China has largely done in Africa is compete for influence by offering infrastructure, financing, and commercial partnerships. We’re in the courting phase of this relationship, and the Chinese have every incentive to demonstrate that they can offer African countries a better deal than the West.
Where Chinese businesses exploit workers, disregard local interests, or behave badly, criticise them. Nobody is asking you to give China a free pass. But let’s not pretend that these problems emerged in a vacuum. Decades of Western domination have left many African countries negotiating from positions of weakness, with institutions too compromised to protect their own citizens effectively. Chinese businesses can exploit those weaknesses, too, and some clearly do.
My point is that even China’s shortcomings need to be assessed against the actual historical and economic context, not some fantasy in which Western powers are the gold standard for responsible foreign engagement.
You want to argue that China is worse? Fine. Bring the evidence, compare the actual terms and consequences, and make your case. I'll wait.
Everything China is doing in Africa can be summed up to the fact that they come with their Greek gifts, that comes with dangerous strings attached so tightly that these African countries may never get them off or become independent again.
We claim to have left Western imperialists to join Eastern imperialists who are even worse off.
The CCP is more brutal and ruthless than the worst of western imperialists will ever be.
China don't care about human rights or Freedom of speech of any kind.
Mbappe matter just gave us a glimpse
Be like say Yankee dey use jazz on some Africans o, especially Nigerians 😂 because hold up. We are still in 2026, the same year the United States abducted the sitting president of an oil-rich country on charges whose legal basis and jurisdiction have been virtually nonexistent.
And then they moved their capitalists in to share the spoils. But the same Africans saying shit about China today applauded the US for being so cool and powerful. The entire episode was like sports to them; it didn’t even generate any moral outrage.
Venezuelan lives were lost in that operation, with little public accountability for those killed. We don’t even know all their names. They abducted the man and his wife and are now attempting to prosecute them despite serious questions about the legality of the operation and the jurisdiction of American courts.
They have also blockaded Cuba and severely restricted its access to oil supplies, worsening an already desperate electricity crisis. People are dying in Cuban hospitals amid power shortages. And which country has stepped forward with food, oil and solar panels to help cushion the effects of this crisis? Fucking China.
As if that weren’t enough, this same country has bombed Iran, killed its Supreme Leader, and carried out strikes, double-tapped a girls’ school, killing 168 children.
And that’s before we get into the treatment of people from certain countries during the World Cup, the humiliation and discrimination some visitors have experienced just for the country they come from, or the people who have faced punishment, professional consequences and financial exclusion for speaking out against what is happening in Gaza. These are all apparently minor inconveniences, right?
Now, after all of this, what exactly has China done to earn its place as the ultimate global monster that Africans, in particular, must be terrified of?
Its companies withdrew commercial arrangements involving Kylian Mbappé and La Liga after he unwittingly referred to China’s founding leader as a dictator.
They didn’t abduct him, imprison him or threaten his life. They withdrew their own commercial partnerships. That’s essentially what happened.
And somehow, this is the great moral emergency that has sent sections of the African internet into a frenzy.
Meanwhile, you have Africans whose standard of living would be considerably worse without Chinese investment, infrastructure, affordable technology and manufacturing. Some of you would be struggling to keep hospitals, businesses and homes powered without those relatively affordable Chinese solar products. Do you people ever stop to think about the contradictions in your own arguments?
Why are you so eager to enlist in a propaganda campaign against countries whose economic partnerships are helping address some of your most basic developmental challenges?
Why are you so willing to adopt the anxieties and geopolitical priorities of a country that has historically and contemporarily treated much of your continent as nothing but just an arena for its own strategic interests?🤦🏾♂️

The thing about imperialism is that it is ubiquitous and impossible to avoid.
Nigerians who think they can have intelligent discussions around politics, economics and business without acknowledging imperialism are just like a castrated man who wants to marry a wife and have kids, but doesn't want to acknowledge his condition.
I'm sorry, but just because you're in denial, or the subject makes you uncomfortable, or you don't want to upset your white friends and investors by talking about it does not mean that this 800-foot elephant in the room is going to disappear.
The imperial system you live under is why you eat imported rice and your bread is made with imported wheat, while your own agricultural land is used for industrial monoculture plantations growing export crops you can't eat like cocoa and cashew.
Imperialism is why your kid goes to school wearing a neck tie, a wool sweater, a thick blazer and cotton socks while the temperature outside is 33⁰C.
Imperialism is why you put on your TV news and the presenter is chewing her tongue desperately trying and failing to mimic the accent of a public school headteacher from Abingdon-on-Thames, whereas literally nobody in the history of her watching audience has ever sounded like that.
Imperialism is why your central bank interest rate is always double digit, which means that consumer credit is literally nonexistent. No amount of roundtable sessions, seminars, and breakfast meetings with the bankers committee and PhD economists can change that basic eternal reality of your economy.
Imperialism is why despite having double digit central bank lending rates, your currency somehow manages to always face inflationary pressure and regularly posts double digit percentage losses in a single day. You can do all the clever economic chart drawings and financial engineering you want, but they are completely useless in the face of imperialist decisions like Structural Adjustment Programs, which you experienced by other names from 1986 to 1988 and from 2023 to 2025.
Imperialism is why you can have all your lovely ideas for leadership and governance, and a young population that is hungry for good leadership, but everytime you go into a "democratic election", you end up coming out with Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu. You can read all your "Why Nations Fail" and do all your "PVC sensitisation drives" and do all the "protect the votes" on election day, and at the end of all the wahala, the INEC chairman will announce that a crippled goat with craw-craw has won the election and if you don't like it you will go and meet Kekere-Ekun in court.
Imperialism is why when you are having sex with your partner, you moan in English and make American noises even though you've never left Owerri before, and your sexual encounters always happen with a specific sequence that starts from oral and culminates in doggy - it's because all the porn you have ever watched in your life has been hosted and curated by American platforms, and you have over time taken on their sexual personality as your own.
Imperialism is why you build with cement blocks plastered with concrete in your 34⁰C climate, even though concrete generates vast amounts of heat as it cures, and it can take years to fully cure, during which time it slowly cooks you in your own house - but rammed earth which your ancestors used is only just becoming a thing once again because white people have "discovered" it and put a brand on it that makes it desirable after they once labelled it as 'primitive'.
I could go on and on. As long as you're determined to avoid confronting the ubiquitous and all-pervasive reality of imperialism in Nigeria, you're not really ready to confront whatever problem you are facing, from food to healthcare to education to public policy to poverty.
If you're not acknowledging that underlying reality, you're just another Nigerian wasting their whole life performing the appearance of thinking, and creating useless content.

It hurts me, but I will wait.
I will wait until after the elections before we have this conversation again.
I don't want to deflate the zest of our young people.
Because this democracy that neither guarantees free and fair elections, nor one's safety after speaking their mind publicly, will not likely not respond to the 'power' of our inky fingers pressed to a paper, next to a logo.
It hurts me that every inevitable failure is equal to 4 more years of one's life wasted. It's okay to waste 4 years when you're young.
But some people don't have many more 4 years to waste.
But let's go on to the polls.
We will vote and protect it.
Maybe Democracy will finally work — for the first time.
For us.
Because our case is different.

🇳🇬 🇹🇷 | Just In
The Nigerian Air Force has just announced the acquisition of 12x TUSAŞ Aksungur UCAVs from Turkey.
With a 24m wingspan, a payload capacity exceeding 750 kg and endurance of up to 50 hours, this huge drone can conduct day and night surveillance, gather intelligence and carry out precision strikes with guided munitions.
Nigeria will join operators including Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and, here in Africa, Chad, Angola and Niger.
Most of the people who do not understand the greatness Nigeria is capable of are like those guys in Plato's allegory of the cave who refused to believe that the sky existed....
Simply because they'd lived in the cave all their lives and have no frame of reference.
They are more naive than malicious, and many will become fervent believers when you give them hope.
So I don't let their foolishness bother me anymore.
But...
The ones I hate are the ones who understand how the world works, and what Nigeria could be, yet undermine it.
Those are our enemies and they deserve thick hemp necklaces and complimentary hands-free jumping lessons.
Replying to @R_eq_uin
This is sickening, they have been Propagandized for decades they now think they don't matter to the US? A flat mate even told me that "Nigeria doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things" and that what will a super power like the US want to do with Nigeria, and we heard all here during Dachomo calling for Trump to invade Nigeria, when we were telling them that the US is only after our resources and that they created the terrorism so they could come in and extract our resources, we saw many blockhead telling us here that "The US is the highest producer of Oil on Earth" and they have all minerals in the world,
We just can't go anywhere with these dead weight,we sieze power by any means possible, we forcefully make their lives better even if they want to destroy their lives and ours at the same time...
