At the opening ceremony of the #AYHS2025, I gave a warm welcome address and I emphasized that youth in Africa should be recognized as not only beneficiaries of healthcare and public health programs and interventions, but they should be recognized as leaders, co-designers and respected partners to building healthier, stronger and prosperous Africa.
I urged delegates, to listen to these powerful conversations keenly & contribute meaningfully as we set to build THE AFRICA WE WANT and HEALTH FOR ALL.
I appreciate all the supporters and funders of #AYHS and the special remarks which I’ll making posts about in subsequent tweets.

I received international delegates and representatives from IFMSA, IPSF, Africa CDC, AU, UN Nigeria, WHO, and other partners on a pre-summit courtesy visit to the Ministry of Youth Development, ahead of the Africa Youth Health Summit.
Nigeria is proud to host tomorrow’s summit, which places youth action at the center of Africa’s health priorities. Likd I have said repeatedly, and many agreed, the youth of Nigeria are our country's greatest asset. We must, therefore, do everything possible to improve their health in order to guarantee their productivity.
Through interventions like the Yo! Health Initiative and the newly established Department of Youth Health, Mental and Psychosocial Affairs (YHMPA) in the Ministry, we are working with over 35 partners to strengthen youth-led health action, address mental health, and align with Agenda 2063 and the SDGs.
Tomorrow’s summit is about youth as leaders and innovators, not just beneficiaries. We count on our partners’ expertise and the creativity of young delegates to shape policies that will drive a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria and Africa.
Together, we can build a future where every young African has access to quality healthcare, where mental health is prioritized, and where no youth potential is wasted.

The #AYHS2025 summit showed that digital skills, health workforce retention, early warning systems, youth engagement, and storytelling are critical for shaping Africa’s health future.
Young people must be empowered, connected to frameworks, and given platforms to drive solutions that build resilient and equitable health systems across the continent.

With reference to the spread of misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, @ibk_og shared how storytelling can transform abstract health concepts into relatable realities for communities.
He noted that many claimed they didn’t know anyone infected, and to counter that, Nigeria Health Watch launched the #MyCOVID19Story campaign, spotlighting survivor experiences and making the crisis real to people.
