since Covid, horse racing in America has fallen so hard that the Breeders Cup is now just Godolphin showcase day
the middle class ownership is completely dried up or dead, and the upper class in the U.S. is still far below Godolphin
Eclipse Award history (owners) :
she won’t win it, cause the voters are in bed with the top owners and breeders like Godolphin, but Nitrogen is the true horse of the year imo
… dances every dance, true champion race mare

Replying to @RacingDFS
I've been there 4 times.
It's basically 2 big bars and a food court on different sides of the building.
No grandstand with seats/TV's
Few betting windows
Can't use @NYRABets card on machines. Just paper vouchers
Admission/Parking overpriced
Very disappointed
people are defending Keeneland as a Breeders Cup venue cause they love Keeneland
however, the product on track and the handle numbers tell you all you need to know. it’s not a good venue for the Breeders Cup, should be removed from the rotation
Belmont & Churchill. the only venues capable of a successful BC are:
Santa Anita - soon to be demolished
Churchill - out of the rotation
old Belmont - RIP 🪦
not great
yesterday wasn’t even a day you’d consider “packed” and the areas most horseplayers are likely to gather to wager and watch the racing was a disaster; it was jammed up.
oh and don’t get me started on the Belmont parking situation. unless you’re willing to pay for “premium parking” … I hope you like to walk.
and even if you take the shuttle; nightmare situation end of the day headed back to the lot
it wasn’t constructed with the everyday / retail horseplayer in mind.
it’s very open, like a NASCAR racetrack: concrete, asphalt.
there aren’t areas for the retail horseplayer to wager and watch racing in a comfortable way. it’s premium seating or bust.
the old Belmont, with the backyard had a character and feel to it. it felt like home, and was a place for families to gather.
bringing your kids, spending the day in the backyard is how you build future fans and horseplayers. no one bringing their kids to the new Belmont
here’s the thing about the new Belmont. it’s likely to be well received by anyone purchasing premium seating on “big days” like Belmont Stakes and Breeders Cup
… however, it’s no longer a track for the everyday race goer / horseplayer. you’re better off watching from home.
there’s no public interest for horse racing anymore, this weekend’s Breeders Cup proved that
the biggest mistake people make is using the Triple Crown as a litmus test for interest. the TC is its own thing in isolation; its Americana. the BC is the better measure 📉
this weekend’s Breeders Cup solidified two things
1) Keeneland should never host again; terrible venue for a BC
2) unless there is drastic change soon, Horse Racing is officially on its last legs; interest, handle, and product all significantly down
non BC races down near 30% !!! 🪦
Total handle for both days of @breederscup @keenelandracing down 7.8% versus last year @DelMarRacing: $165.5M-$179.4M, and down 12.3% from the BC record $188.7M in 2022. The 8 non BC races this year were down 27%; BC races only (intrarace) down just 3.7%
There's a new version of this post
I seriously can’t get over how bad Belmont is, the place has no character, no charm. nothing like the old Belmont
… it’s just cold, concrete and asphalt
the stars really needed to align for a mid horse like Sovereignty to win the Classic, and they did with Magnitude being forced to scratch and Forever Young not firing
Magnitude and Forever Young are far greater horses than Sovereignty
should come as no shock that the worst Breeders Cup ever would have the absolute worst Classic winner
