My Government is taking decisive action to restrict the importation of vapes and vaping products into Guyana as part of our commitment to protecting public health, particularly the health and well-being of our children and young people.
The growing use of these products, coupled with the serious health risks associated with nicotine addiction and exposure to harmful substances, demands responsible and timely intervention. We cannot afford to adopt a wait-and-see approach when the health of our people is at stake.
The restrictions will strengthen regulatory oversight while allowing for legitimate medicinal and therapeutic applications, subject to approval by the relevant health authorities. Our responsibility is clear: to protect our people, safeguard future generations and place public health above all else.

🫀 Are we measuring pericardial effusions the wrong way?
We routinely classify pericardial effusions as small, moderate, or large based on linear measurements.
But does a single measurement in millimeters accurately represent the actual volume of pericardial fluid?
Study in @JournalASEcho challenges this
onlinejase.com/article/S0894…
🔬 245 patients undergoing pericardiocentesis
Median drained volume: 500 mL (range 50–4,300 mL)
76.7% had cardiac tamponade
Actual drained volume served as the reference standard.
📊 How did different echo methods perform?
Between end diastolic thickness, plax and PSAx area- apical 4 chamber Simpson’s volumetric estimation performed the best
✅ Accuracy: 80.4% vs 49.4%
Perhaps it is time to rethink how we quantify pericardial effusions!
💡 if volumetric assessment is substantially more accurate, should we move from millimeters to milliliters in routine echocardiography?
And more importantly, would this change clinical decision-making—or simply improve the precision of our reports?

Heart health is about more than the heart. ❤️ Cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic conditions are deeply connected. Understanding these connections can help identify cardiovascular risk earlier.

International Day for Interventional Cardiology: the first coronary #angioplasty
On 16 September 1977, Andreas Grüntzig & his team made history, and changed the lives of millions of patients forever.
Standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before him, this transformative vision led to an entirely new field of medicine.
What began nearly five decades ago with coronary angioplasty has grown into the broad field of interventional cardiology, transforming cardiovascular care through research, innovation and technological progress.
As the field has evolved, so has the need to learn from experience, share knowledge and shape what comes next. Join us in 2027 at #EuroPCR to mark this landmark moment!

A quarter of a century has passed since September 11, 2001, when the peace of our Nation was shattered by terrorists.
Today, we remember the 2,977 precious lives taken from us, honor the heroes who answered the call, & keep their families in the heart of our Nation.
Above all, we must ensure the memory of 9/11 never fades, but is carried from one generation of Americans to the next.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Portable radiography could change how astronauts receive medical care in space. 🚀
A study published in @radiology_rsna reports the first diagnostic X-rays acquired during orbital spaceflight. Crew members with only four hours of training used a portable X-ray system to image anatomy and equipment while in orbit.
The results show that diagnostic imaging beyond ultrasound may be feasible for future missions farther from Earth. Read more: bit.ly/3QXaUKC

Happy 250th Independence Day America!!🇺🇸 🎊🍾
@Freedom250
I was pleased to join U.S. Ambassador Nicole D. Theriot last evening to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States.
Guyana and the United States share 60 years of a strong, trusted and reliable partnership, built on mutual respect, shared values and a commitment to advancing the prosperity and security of our peoples.
Today, that partnership is stronger than ever, and I look forward to continuing to deepen the enduring ties between our two nations.

🇬🇾 ❤️ 🇯🇲
Today, I held bilateral discussions with Jamaica’s Prime Minister, @AndrewHolnessJM, and his delegation.
Joined members of my Cabinet, discussions focused on further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Guyana and Jamaica and advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including education, energy, security, government efficiency, agriculture, housing, and several other areas of collaboration.
Prime Minister Holness is in Guyana on a two-day State Visit.
Mid journey unveils the future of medical scanning:
"Less than a dozen of these machines operating together at full speed can do more full body scans than every MRI machine together on Earth. Our goal is to build a fleet of 50,000 of these scanners, capable together of doing a billion scans a month—enough to bring full body imaging to everyone on Earth."
Using thousands of specialized transducers, this prototype system shoots ultra-precise sound waves through the body at over 1,400 meters per second. As these sonic vibrations echo back, they are captured in data streams of 17 gigabytes per second, measuring changes finer than the width of an atom. A massive 2-petaflop compute ring then merges these thousands of sub-images to map out a highly detailed, 3D internal anatomy of organs and tissues in just 60 seconds.
"This is a new kind of infrastructure. It’s Full Body Ultrasonic Computational Tomography. No such device has ever been built until now, and yeah, we’re calling it the Midjourney Scanner."
My favorite quote from David, was that they want this to be a feel like a genuinely “nice” experience, not a “going to the doctor experience” they’re going to put these inside mid journey spas!
