It’s actually crazy how you grow up thinking home-cooked meals every day are just normal, then get older and realise how much time and effort it took your Mom to make that happen and how lucky you were to have that.

If you had our childhood you’d understand.
I’m not a millennial, but I’ve always found this interesting. A lot of millennials seem unusually attached to childhood nostalgia well into adulthood. Not just remembering it fondly, but actively revisiting it, recreating it, and sometimes even trying to experience things they feel they missed growing up. From cartoons and video games to fandoms, toys, collectibles, and childhood franchises, nostalgia seems to play a much bigger role in millennial culture than it does for Gen Z or older generations. Maybe it’s because they grew up during the transition from an analog world to a digital one. Maybe it’s because childhood felt more optimistic before social media, smartphones, and constant online pressure became the norm. I don't necessarily think it's cringe. If anything, it's a fascinating generational trait. But it does make me wonder: Why do millennials seem so much more interested in reliving childhood than the generations before or after them?

Remember when you could watch sports and not hear “spread,” “money line,” or “parlay” every 30 seconds? That was nice.

I’m a retired brain surgeon and I wanna tell you why you feel like life is passing by. I just need one minute to explain this to you so hang in there. Repetitive daily routines stop the brain from recording clear detailed memories. When every day looks the same, your brain does not track time the same as a clock does. It tracks change. If nothing new happens then days, months, and years start to blur together. This is know as Time compression. When life lacks variety, your brain compresses past days together, making it feel like time is sped up. To stop feeling like life is passing you by, add new experiences to your life. Break routine habits, like changing your daily home routine, taking a different route to work, or trying a new hobby. Schedule small trips or plan new adventures so your days do not blend together. Practice mindfulness by staying fully focused on what you are doing right now and not trying to race off to the next task. Keep a journal and write down happy memories or memorable parts of the day before you go to sleep. Take deep, calm breaths when you feel anxious or rushed to return your focus to the moment. You can and you will retrain your brain to not feel like life is passing you by by following these few simple measures.

"I shut social media down. I think it's affecting these kids. They don't give a damn if we win or lose. As soon as you get out of the game, they on the gram, who tagged me? Who posted me? That's f**** our young kids' heads up. That's not we allow in our program for the most part. We're their extended Dads on the road. I teach them discipline. We go to bed at a certain time. I take their phones. We don't have social media and it's a business trip. Kind of how we approach the game, I try to teach them the same level of how we do it in the NBA. We come here, we ain't getting in the swimming pools. We probably go to the movies, sit and relax for a good time. Other than that, we are there for business. We watch film probably more than any NBA team after each game. At that age, you're learning the game so much. For me, instead of arguing back and forth, I just pop the tape in and then there's nothing to argue about. I have the whole team vote. Is this a travel or foul? And they get to coach themselves and not just hearing me thinking I'm crazy and just talking on the sidelines, it's like here's the proof. When they get to the film, it changes their mindset within the game." - Rajon Rondo
