I’m at @OaklandFireCA’s training center with @MayorShengThao and @carroll_fife today. They’re suited up with air-tight masks, tanks and full turnout gear — 65 lbs of gear — to withstand the heat in the burn box. @KCBSRadio
This is what it looks like. @MayorShengThao is in there right now. #firefighters #oakland @KCBSRadio
They made it out. @MayorShengThao was on message as she emerged. She said she has more understanding of the teamwork required to fight fires and fire risks in Oakland’s varied environment. @carroll_fife says wearing 65lbs of gear is exhausting, “like childbirth.” @KCBSRadio
I’m at Burbank Elementary in #Hayward today, where CA’s Schools Superintendent and @AsmLizOrtega is reading to a TK classroom. After the Mo Willems book, I’ll ask @TonyThurmond how contract negotiations are going btw @OaklandEA and @OUSDNews. #oakland #strike @WeAreCTA @KCBSRadio – at Hayward, CA
What @TonyThurmond said: he wouldn’t have held this early childhood Ed event today if the #Oakland teacher contract negotiations weren’t productive. As a mediator btw @OUSDNews & @OaklandEA, he can’t say much. He sounded hopeful, said both parties are working hard. @KCBSRadio
High fives all around. That’s what many #Oakland parents and caregivers will do when the #strike is over and their kids go back school. #teachers too! @KCBSRadio
Raptor action at @BAMPFA via @CalFalconCam. It’s Hatch Day in #Berkeley & these human hatchlings from a nearby preschool got to watch Annie feeding her 1st chick, the ball of white fluff. Another egg is about to hatch soon. More on @KCBSRadio shortly: audacy.com/stations/kcbsradi… 🐣 – at Berkeley, CA
Can't make our in-person hatch day celebration? Falcon scientists Lynn Schofield and Sean Peterson will also be answering questions live on YouTube at 2pm. Come join us!

The falcon fans set up a watch party here at @BAMPFA’s big screen to gather and celebrate #Berkeley’s resident peregrine falcons. @KCBSRadio – at Berkeley, CA

This is why the residents of #Benicia are being asked to slash their #water usage by 40%. A mudslide in a pasture beside the freeway north of town damaged a 3 ft. water main. More on @KCBSRadio at 2pm and online: audacy.com/kcbsradio/listen – at California, USA
Benicia Public Works does not have an estimate for when the water main will be fixed. Here’s one of their staff for scale. Behind him is I-680 which will complicate repairs because crew will have to keep mud and water off the freeway. @KCBSRadio – at Benicia, CA
Here’s why I-580 eastbound is likely to be a mess this afternoon. @CaltransD4 is waiting for the rain to let up to re-stripe the lanes. I’ll be live on @KCBSRadio with details at noon. @KCBSAMFMTraffic has the latest in the meantime. Drive safe and stay warm!
Workers from @CaltransD4 are here but there’s not much they can do until the rain stops.
Heading back now. Here’s the traffic heading East from Livermore to the Altamont Pass, which is down 2 lanes. @KCBSAMFMTraffic @KCBSRadio Drive safe! Listen live here: audacy.com/kcbsradio/listen
Look how the retaining walls just slid down the hill into the field of mustard. @KCBSRadio – at California, USA
That tiny creek down there is to blame for the eastbound traffic on 580 today. It’s roaring. Also, this is my office today. Pretty view but cold and wet! @KCBSRadio @KCBSAMFMTraffic
Officials from @SFBART, @BayAreaCouncil and Union Square Alliance promise a safer transit system with more officers on trains. More on @KCBSRadio shortly. #SanFrancisco #BayArea #publictransit
