Gamers are passionate, even the "best" games get flooded with criticism. No doubt it hurts when people tear apart something you've poured your heart and countless hours into. You'll implement changes the community asked for, only to watch others rage about those exact updates. What's interesting to me? That player leaving angry comments on Discord often has 100+ hours logged. They're not really hating, they're invested. They want the game to be better but don't know how to express it constructively. The negativity teaches you, but it makes you treasure the positive messages even more. I've had players DM me saying RavenQuest saved them. That our world became their second home, their guild became family, RavenQuest was their break from their day to day lives. When I was newer to this industry, hate comments would crush me. But one heartfelt message about how much the game meant to someone would instantly revive my motivation. Both extremes are dangerous. Too much praise makes you think you're untouchable. Too much criticism makes you question every decision. Balance is everything. My boss and our CEO at TavernLight Games prepapred me about this cycle: pre-launch feels like a high. Your tight community of early supporters genuinely loves what you're building. Post-launch, growth brings volume, and with volume comes vocal hate. It's normal. The wins outweigh the losses. Knowing you've created something that matters to people. Seeing players form lifelong friendships in your world. Watching someone escape their struggles through your game. That's what keeps us building, despite the noise. It's nice to see other people curious about this relationship between devs and players. I hope I could give you a bit of perspective from the dev side.
