Read the fifteen point “plan” purportedly offered by the Trump administration to Iran as demands to end the war. Absolute nonsense! Iran gets to walk away after 47 years of brutal tyranny, promoting violence throughout the world, developing nuclear weapons, killing thousands of Americans and recently butchering tens of thousands of innocent Iranian protesters. Iran gets to retain its nuclear program. It keeps its missile program. It keeps its military, it does not demand free elections, nor does it require Iran to surrender in any form. But Trump crows that Iran has given a “present” worth a lot of money! At a time when our minds are reeling over corruption and the deleterious effects of money trashing principles, we get a Presidential boast that seems tantamount to admitting to being bribed. All taken together, it seems obvious. Trump is turning the American back on the most heinous regime since Hitler and Stalin in return for a payoff. What does that tell the loved ones of Americans killed by Iranian IEDs? Or the tens of thousands murdered in terrorist attacks by Iranian proxies? How about the Israeli citizens butchered on October 7 and those huddling with their children in bomb shelters as Iranian rockets rain down in the darkness. What does it tell the world? That America’s word is worth less than its bank account? Maybe Trump can salve the agony of the families of the 40,000 plus protesters shot down in the streets of Iranian cities and tortured in political prisons by the IRGC, their lunatic mullah masters and their rabid followers. Perhaps assign a dollar value for each grave, every broken heart and each individual who he encouraged to rise up with a promise that “help is on the way!” I am ashamed, disgusted and angry. I have supported Trump from the beginning, but if this is the path he finds acceptable then I must turn my back on him, his Presidency and his legacy. The people of Iran deserve better. America deserves better. The opportunity to relegate the horrors of the Islamic Republic to the dustbin of history is at hand. It’s within our grasp. The world has the memory of the catastrophic error of Neville Chamberlain, Trump is in line to become the next.
