A leaderboard screenshot can make you feel safe. That might be the most dangerous part of it.
On @GenLayer, the live Pre-Mainnet Staking leaderboard shows how node seats would be distributed if the programme ended today. It is a useful signal, but it is not a final allocation.
The distinction matters.
Every staked GEN earns 1 Staking Point per day. Add more GEN and you can increase your future point accumulation. But you cannot go back and earn points for days you didn't stake.
Even an unclaimed airdrop counts as staked from THE DAY, collecting points while it remains locked.
At the mainnet snapshot, the Foundation-backed node seats are distributed proportionally to accumulated points. And points are only part of the picture: a qualifying node must have run on Clarke for at least 30 days.
I wouldn't treat today's rank as a finish line. I'd treat it as information about a competition that is still moving.
What would make you rethink your position: seeing your rank fall, or realizing how many staking days remain before the snapshot?

A company gives me a seat before I have proved myself. I would take it seriously.
That is how I see GenLayer's Pre-Mainnet Staking.
From THE DAY, my unclaimed GEN airdrop counts as staked, even while locked. It earns Staking Points automatically. I walk in as an intern, but I am not starting from zero.
Now comes probation. Every GEN earns 1 point daily, so 1,000 GEN gives me 1,000 points on THE DAY and 30,000 after 30 days.
The live leaderboard on the @GenLayer Portal becomes my performance review. I can see where I stand, watch other interns climb and feel the competition building.
At the mainnet snapshot, eligible node seats are distributed in proportion to accumulated points.
Then comes the promotion.
A node seat makes me a validator, initially backed with the Foundation's GEN. I process transactions and earn GEN fees.
I don't even need to operate the hardware myself. A node-as-a-service partner can handle that, provided my node runs on Clarke for at least 30 days to qualify.
If a company backed me before I proved myself, I would make every day count.
