Explain to foreign friends why #Mbappé 's remarks drew backlash from the Chinese people. Fundamentally, #MaoZedong ’s influence transcends politics. Traditional Chinese historiography is rooted in Confucian ethical narratives. Society was structured around the moral codes binding emperors and ministers, fathers and sons. History amounted largely to the chronicles of emperors and generals, while ordinary people remained silent subjects. Mao Zedong’s profound achievement lay in rewriting this logic. History would no longer be written by sages, but made by the people. The “world‑under‑heaven” was no longer the private domain of one clan, but belonged to the people. He turned equality from slogans into tangible reality. Women were encouraged to step into public life. The motto “Women hold up half the sky” enabled half of China’s population to become subjects of history for the very first time. Mass literacy campaigns brought education to hundreds of millions of grassroots people — knowledge had long been a privilege exclusive to the scholar‑official class before that. What is particularly hard for Western audiences to grasp is the psychological dimension. Modern China endured a century‑long humiliation, where national self‑confidence nearly collapsed. The significance of the declaration “The Chinese people have stood up” lies not merely in its literal meaning. It marked the starting‑point for the psychological reconstruction of multiple generations, forging a national ethos that would no longer bow to might. This explains why Chinese people today hold such complex and profound views on Mao Zedong. His legacy lives on not only within institutions, but also in the mental framework of generations. @zhang_heqing @XH_Lee23 @Jingjing_Li @realmadrid @KMbappe
