Had a great time talking w/ @alexanderrusso about why the left has so little to say about schools, why we're due for a reckoning over the political damage done by the push to send every kid to college, & why teachers unions aren't going anywhere (even tho edu-pundits hate them)

When I interviewed Chris Leonard about his fantastic book Kochland he told me that school privatization was a particular passion of the Kochs--a passion that courses through this story nytimes.com/2026/10/25/us/po…

I've been a broken record on why school vouchers are turning out to be a real liability for the GOP in Texas (and beyond). Nice to see the NYT pick up on this.

Teacher turnover is the key barrier to expanding childcare. “Currently they make less than food service workers and parking lot attendants and we know, because they receive less, you get high turnover” said our state Superintendent Conway at the Child Care Summit with @VECF_Ready

I wrote about how the hollowing out of higher education is hurting rural students. Wisconsin is an extreme cautionary tale but rising inequality and the obsessive focus on ROI are happening everywhere barnraisingmedia.com/gutting…

Today, Gov. Hochul announced that New York State will opt into the Trump administration's voucher program. Giving up local control of public education to the federal government through this scheme is a failure of leadership. Gov. Hochul will bear the responsibility, but our students, educators, and families will bear the price. The UFT is disappointed in this decision and we will continue to stand with parents, educators and public school supporters to do what we can to roll back this policy and protect our classrooms. There's a lot we still don't know about how Trump's school voucher program is going to impact public schools. But seems pretty telling that the most hopeful vision looks like Spirit Airlines. chalkbeat.org/2026/09/30/how…
