Welp. After nearly fifty hours of nonstop chest searching with no luck, I think I'm ready to call it quits with my pirate token search. At least, for now. I might try again later. Bit of a rant incoming 🤓 I'll start with the positive side of stuff. I had fun grinding! Epic did a great job with this season. The playable map is phenomenal, it's for sure in my top five across all modes. The loot pool is perfect, I'm loving all the new items (especially that shotgun) and the returning ones feel great to use (I love you, flint knock pistol). And the theme is wonderful, I've wanted a pirate themed season for so long. Searching chests nonstop, while very monotonous, wasn't actually that bad compared to Sprite hunting. The smaller scale of the map meant that I'd pretty often run into other players while going through my chest routes, which was very much welcome; I could grind for the token and still play the game. Even in matches that were mostly spent chest hunting, I was almost always able to rotate into the circle to fight the final players, so I secured a lot of wins along the way. All in all, I'm loving this season. I went in with pretty much zero expectations but I've been pleasantly surprised with what we got, so great work to all the talented human minds at Epic that put this all together! ❤️ Now for the negative side of things. I don't mind that I didn't get the pirate token, that was the goal yes but I've accepted that there's no way I'm gonna get it; I'm just here for the fun of it. I don't think it's rigged or fake or whatever, it's just stupid rare. And that's alright! It's a lot of money and I'm grateful we even have this opportunity in the first place. HOWEVER. The fact that I didn't get the golden A$AP Rocky outfit is INSANE. Nearly fifty hours of playtime with no luck is ridiculous. Assuming the odds are the same for the other four (five?) gold outfits, how on EARTH is anyone supposed to get one, let alone all of them? I really want golden Miku when she arrives and I'm willing to put in another fifty hours just to get her, but it's clear even that isn't enough. I get that this stuff if supposed to be rare, but unlike Sprites, it's not a one and done thing where one person finding it snowballs into everyone having it. You have to find this stuff yourself, which makes it FAR rarer than it seems, even if it looks like something is more common than a Sprite (e.g. the rumored 1 / 700K for a pirate token vs 1 / 1M for a zero point Sprite). That's mostly all I have to say. I was expecting to be really burnt out of Fortnite by now, but I've still got the motivation to keep chest hunting in me. Can't say the same for others though, it's a bit concerning seeing how much this is damaging some people mentally and I wish they'd take a break. It was nice spending a few days away from UEFN, but I really need to get back to it. I spent a lot of the boring moments of chest hunting concepting ideas for Terra 3, so it's not like this week was a total waste. But this game isn't gonna develop itself! Rant over.
