In 2003, the Dogs’ defense delivered a legendary goal-line stand against Oregon State and Steven Jackson. Trailing 14–13 in the 4th, the Bulldogs stuffed Jackson on four straight downs at the goalline. Even a penalty following a blocked FG couldn’t save the Beavers. Brett Visintainer later drilled the game-winner to seal a 16–14 Bulldog victory.

In 2001, Ken Simonton arrived in Fresno as one of the nation’s leading Heisman candidates. He left with a 44–24 loss, just 42 yards on 15 carries (his lowest total in 17 games), and a Heisman campaign that never recovered.
