Meh, the SNES and N64 were far more capable graphically than the Genesis and PS1 at the time, even though it might not seem like it today. The GameCube was also significantly more powerful than the PS2.

I would argue the Shadowhunter/Gaius twist works, but only because he has a completely different voice actor, and we never saw Gaius outside of his armor in 2.0
I imagine they’ll keep Reborn mode around for Evercold and 9.0, and once they actually have feedback and people have years to get acquainted with Evolved mode, then they might start to get rid of Reborn.
The development panel literally showcases PLD, DRG, and WHM, and explains most of the major design philosophies in Evolved mode. Yoshi-P also explicitly referenced Star Wars Galaxies and the New Combat Update fiasco as something they don’t want to do.
As cool as it would be, I can see why they said they’re done making new playable races. It’s an awful lot of rigging and animation work,
