I watched the new edgerunners in EN bc I wanted all the Cyberpunk slang and was not gonna miss out on clancy brown, and then I was curious how the JP script was handled so I put the JP subs on lol.

Not only does edgerunners feel made for an English dub specifically (it's a western IP so all the slang you don't get in other languages like Japanese) this whole sub elitism gimmick does not work when the performances are simply just good, like they got Clancy Brown on this.

Magic systems always use some ancient language like Latin or somethin but I think it'd be hilarious if spells just required like, regular English sentence structure "Get a bit warmer" "exactly 15 ice spikes" "shield that's kinda yellow and see through"

On various charts and on reddit Chiifuyo is either outside the top 10 or barely there. But on the JP lists it ranks quite high. It was one of the most anticipated new titles. It may not seem like it deserves all of that right now but if fans are to be trusted it certainly will.

Localization obv is not as hot of an issue in japan because they have a lot of local media. But there's plenty of people who do enjoy works TLed from other languages. Of course they can appreciate translation as an artform.

I have a theory that japanese fantasy LN's magic schools are mainly inspired by harry potter since it was so popular in japan. Add to this the fact villainesses are a trope that didn't actually spawn from VNs, and my conclusion is that in truth the villainess derives from malfoy.
