Perhaps govt are reviewing ofwat performance - employee benefits, bonus and pensions and clawing back some of the wasted 350m operating costs of the last 10 years and 1m ongoing gold plated civil service pension liabilities - but I doubt it. The blob is rarely held to account.
A car crash interview from Angela Eagle, “the lesser of two Eagles”. Labour’s big announcement today is the introduction of eight new regional water councils, but the Environment Secretary can’t even explain what powers they’ll actually have. Additionally, which areas will each one cover? Who will lead them? How will membership of these councils be selected? When will they be established? Who will they answer to? Etc, etc… Another shambolic announcement from a Government which loves a headline, but has zero detail to back it up.

#MSFT case study themselves on the impacts of the AI business model and our government is focussing on 4p off gherkins.
$MSFT - MICROSOFT OFFERS BUYOUTS TO 60,000 WORKERS AMID AI SPENDING BOOM Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to approximately 60,000 employees as it restructures its workforce and redirects spending toward AI. Key details: 🔸 60,000 workers eligible across the US, Canada, India, and UK. 🔸 223,000 employees globally as of June. 🔸 Data center teams are among those excluded from the offer. 🔸 Eligible employees will receive severance-style benefits. The key takeaway: Microsoft is tightening labor costs while protecting critical AI infrastructure investments, highlighting how AI spending is reshaping Big Tech employment.

I’ve been talking about possible impacts of AI & robotics since 2022. Early in 2025, I said we had around 5 years of maturity gain before we hit some fundamental issues with our economic model. I was wrong. It’s less. Robotics isn’t far behind, a race China, hands down, will win

They had 10 years of rising pupils numbers right up until the year the VAT was added, then a sharp drop.

Will be bugger all left to take by then. Those with wealth all fled, leaving our bloated state and AI crippled economy with millions of sick people looking for someone to pay their bills.

You know where there's a ton of autistic kids being brought up with a significantly better than average chance of not ending up stuck on PIP? Independent schools. Did the public encourage this self-sufficiency and self-reliance? No. It voted to tax the parents.

Christ, it’s quite something when Boris is calling you a liar.
This is just not true. As soon as I became foreign secretary I asked the security services the same question and they replied that there was no evidence of any successful interference in the 2016 referendum, by Russia or any other power. Either the security services have changed their view - which would be very odd - or Burnham is lying about what he has been told. After all Starmer was in power for two years and had access to exactly the same information. theguardian.com/technology/2…

Did anyone ask Darren Jones if he’d seen mortgage rates recently @BBCRadio4 #AQ
Mortgages today hit 6%. Who will Labour blame this time?

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. We are no longer a serious nation.

I know this isn’t a silver bullet. It might help some people find cheaper fuel, but it doesn’t mean that’s all we’re doing to help people with the cost of living. We’re cutting VAT on electricity bills. Capping bus fares at £2 in England. Giving disabled people 24/7 free bus travel. Making it easier to cancel subscriptions. Cutting business rates for pubs, clubs and music venues. Stopping schools from demanding endless expensive branded uniforms. Ensuring if your train is cancelled, you can use your ticket on other operators free of charge. Fuel duty is staying frozen to the end of the year. Yes, on their own, I accept that these things don’t seem like much when people’s lives have gotten harder. There’s a lot still to do. But I won’t shy away from the big issues either. It’s why I made announcements last week on more public control of water, energy, and housing, to make the basics better for people long-term. Together, these changes add up, and no matter how small it may seem, I will pull every single lever I can to help people, whenever I can.

Lib Dem’s basically finally admitting they’d get into bed with Labour. Vote Ed, get Red.
Badenoch has spent half her conference making unfunded promises, and half lecturing the country on fiscal responsibility. We’re all still paying the price for Conservative financial mismanagement. Liberal Democrats will act as the firewall stopping her handing No 10 to Farage.

Where is all the money from taxing private schools? Clue, so many left or changed their choice to move into state there is none & now state schools just get worse because Labour priced out a chunk of people who would have paid for their own kids but now won’t. Stupid Labour.

When it comes to homeownership, people are either locked out of the market or hit hard by the Tory mortgage bombshell. Labour is the only choice for people dreaming of owning their own home. Our plans will boost housebuilding and bring economic security. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

The loony logic of the left. Only what they say is “free” should be “free”. And those paying for their kids to have schools shouldn’t be allowed to and therefore should be taxed. Can anyone make it make sense?
He's going to go bonkers when finds out that people earning more than £100k send their kids to state schools.

I literally can’t be bothered to watch Burnham speech. When you’ve seen behind the curtain, you know it’s all just spin.

Said this recently. Hard working people treated worse than those on benefits when it comes to redundancy. 16k goes quickly with a mortgage and kids to look after, and basically no financial help.
Earlier this week @darrenpjones warned that the welfare system can't cover middle-class workers who lose their jobs to AI. A new GBTT guest piece runs the numbers on one of them. Mark is 47, a credit risk manager, from Arnold in Notts. 25 years of National Insurance, plenty of income taxes at the higher rate. How much does he get back and how does that compare to European peers? 🧵

They will fuel the exodus. People are already leaving.
This is another tax raid on London. £1.5m buys a mansion in most of the country but in many parts of London it buys a modest family home. This anti-London Labour government is adding to the capital’s cost of living.

It’s what we call a Doom Loop. Well done, Labour. Slow hand clap.
Lord Woolfson, of Next, is surely right: "The tax burden is at its highest level for over 60 years and seems to us to be at the point where further increases only risk stifling growth – and lower growth is likely to only worsen Government finances – a vicious circle."

Burnham’s voice shaky in a interview today. It’s all starting to go a bit Liz Truss. Someone get a lettuce out.
