Repro Rockers, our followers are missing hearing about the great #repro work we do so a wee reminder if you do have some time for a takeover then drop us a DM! Would be great to hear about how you are adapting your work/research during these strange times #reprorocks
Thanks to the fab @JessFellmeth who took us through sperm-egg interactions, meiosis & even worms in her takeover! Thanks Jess, come back soon :) #reprorocks
Today we move on to the glorious WORM! C. Elegans. Who'd have thought that a tiny hermaphroditic nematode could tell us so much about mammalian fertilization? Dr. Andy Singson does, that's who!
Along w/ another former graduate student, now PhD, Dr. Arunika Das (now at UPenn) she showed that SPC105R (KNL1 homolog) and PP187B are necessary for sister chromatid co-orientation in meiosis via protecting cohesion and regulating spindle attachments respectively. @das_arunika
I am a reproductive biologist who studies meiosis. And as we all know this is difficult (though not impossible) to do in humans/mammals. My graduate work focused on mouse meiosis (@KASchindler27 ) and I’m now using drosophila as my egg of choice (@kimstewartmckim ).
Good Evening Repro World! I'm @JessFellmeth taking over the Repro Rocks Twitter for this week! I am quite snarky so prepare for lots of memes! But since I am a passionate educator, let's start with a poll! What is the hardest thing about reproduction for students to understand?
[admin] Welcome @JessFellmeth to the team - a postdoc with Dr. Kim McKim @ Rutgers Uni studying chromosome segregation & aneuploidy in Drosophila oocytes. Jess is passionate about teaching & mentoring & is a carnivorous plant gardener, crocheter & pottery thrower! #reprorocks
[admin] Taking the reins this week is Dr @TaylorPini from the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine. With a background in sheep reproduction, particularly sperm, & now working in human infertility we are in for a great week of repro tweets! #reprotwitter #reprorocks
Inspiring talk this evening by @teresakwoodruff on engineering reproduction. Great way to end #IETS2020
