Very sad to hear that Alan Jones has passed away aged 80. The last Australian and 1st Williams driver to become #F1 world champion. Jones started the first of his 116 F1 races in a Hesketh 308 at the 1975 Spanish GP.

Graham Hill joined Lotus as a mechanic but soon talked his way into the cockpit, making his #F1 debut in 1958. 10 years later #OTD 1968 he won the Mexican GP and was crowned World Champion for the second time.

He was Renault’s 1st GP winner in 1979. After his passing in 2023 a statement from Alpine/Renault wrote “A humble racing driver, brilliant engineer and a pioneer of our sport. A true racer”.
