Excellent work from our homepage headline writers as ever
Shabana Mahmood's ILR reforms, which were briefed to me in FEBRUARY and yet still haven't been laid before Parliament, are actually quite good.
They don't go far enough, but it is a MUCH fairer system. The longer they kick this into the long grass, it will almost become irrelevant.

Hi Stevie
Thanks for getting in touch regarding escalators at Abbey Wood station.
Sorry for the inconvenience. In April 2026, the maintenance contract for the escalators at Abbey Wood changed. Following inspections by the new asset maintainer, concerns were raised about their operation and the escalators were taken out of service.
A more detailed review has since identified that a number of components will need to be replaced before the escalators can safely return to service. Work is underway to assess the required repairs, costs and timescales.
In the meantime, customers who require step-free access can continue to use the lifts within the station. We apologise for the ongoing disruption and appreciate your patience.
Many thanks ^DD
Reform, the Lib Dems, the Greens (and indeed Labour) constantly have a view on the electoral system of โwhatever suits us bestโ.
The Conservatives are more principled than that. PR would have helped us in 2024. Do we support it? No.

The way plunging us into six months of darkness, which is bad for mental and physical health, and womenโs safety, is somehow presented as a win.
There was never any prospect of Falklands War 2.0. Milei is up for re-election next year, so what do you do when youโre an Argentine president up for re-election? You sabre-rattle, of course.
The fact anyone ever believed there was more to it than that is on them.
Javier Milei has ruled out military action to seize the Falkland Islands from Britain.

Only once the B-spec car turned up.
Prior to that the car was either slow (Spain, Turkey, UK) or he made unforced errors (Liegate, spins in Malaysia and China, qualifying crash in Monaco). The one exception is Bahrain.
Thereโs also an argument here relating to VAWG, which - and I presume this is the case but I have no evidence to back it up - would be less prevalent in the daytime.
Iโd rather it was lighter at 4pm and darker at 6am; at present itโs the other way around.

Hotels don't offer cricketers new deals, so it makes perfect sense why Jimmy Anderson is being forced to retire.
Twenty six years, a stand named after him and still taking wickets... Lancashire just treated its greatest player like a 10am check out.

Every Wednesday, this entitled and selfish bore makes it impossible to work in nearby offices.
He ruins the experience of thousands of visitors and tourists.
And the police and courts let him.
His supposed right to protest comes above the interests of everyone else.
This is the problem with human rights laws - summed up in one very sad man.

Breathtakingly dishonest to make it seem like this is about enforcing โmarketโ rates.
The whole point of the market is that is ISNโT set by the government.
How is this not obvious to a Cabinet Minister?
This Labour governmentโs transformative Rentersโ Rights Act empowers private renters to challenge unreasonable rent increases.
If a tenant believes a proposed rent increase is above the open-market rent, they can refer the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.
In a recent case in Manchester where the Landlord proposed an increase in rent from ยฃ1,650 per calendar month to ยฃ1,700, the Tribunal determined the open market rent was actually ยฃ1,450 per calendar month.
Weโre standing up for renters and our reforms are working.
