At this time we have to remind ourselves that it has been largely due to the incredible leadership of @RachelNotley that this position is now so hotly contested by so many fine people.
So sad to see @tconnolly02 leave the @RPIAthletics womens hockey program. TY for what you have done to build the program. How could RPI let this happen?

No, you created a law that requires companies to prov something using tools that do not exist. It is a craven approach that avoided debate by dropping it into a larger bill because you knew you couldn't pass it as a single act.

*NEW* With today's release of the 2024Q2 population, we can update Canada's GDP per capita series. Average income down 2.45% between 1st quarter of 2023 and 2024. Level is virtually identical to 1st quarter of 2017. Seven years of no economic growth.
"starting around 2015"...wasn't that about the time that we started judging federal leaders on their aspirations rather than their actions?

Smith oddly used a photo with only 37 MLAs in her 47-member UCP caucus, making a small-for-Alberta governing team seem even smaller. (NDP has 38)
Missing members include Deputy Premier Mike Ellis, Health Minister Adriana Lagrange and Adv Ed Min Rajan Sawhney.

Today was Rachel Notley's last day in the legislature as leader of the Official Opposition. She has been a fierce advocate for the underdog — consistently fighting for equality and human rights. She has stood up for families and the services they rely on. And she has been an incredible mentor in the game they call politics.
Alberta is incredibly lucky to have her.

This @albertaNDP leadership vote is agonizing. On policy, split between @KathleenGanley and @nenshi . And my fave MLAs are also split: @pancholi_rakhi and @SamirKayande for Nenshi, but @SPhillipsAB for Ganley. Leaning towards @KathleenGanley

I always knew that Canada’s proposed cap on oil & gas emissions would have a big cost to Canada’s economy; @OilGasCanada has just issued a report by @SPGCI to quantify it. The “Stress Case” with the cap has conventional production 35% lower by 2035 than the "Base Case" #cndpoli

My colleague @SPhillipsAB , her family and the staff in the Lethbridge-West office have been through so much in the last 7 years.
Political intimidation in a free and democratic society is unacceptable. I applaud her fortitude and fully support her pursuit of justice. #ableg

A normal Honda Accord needs about 40 pounds of copper. The same battery electric Accord needs 200 pounds. Onshore wind turbines require about 10 tons of copper, and offshore approx. 20 tons. The world will need to mine 115% more copper than has been mined in all human history just to meet “business as usual.” This would meet our current copper needs and support the developing world without considering the green energy transition. Six new large mines need to come online every year by 2050 to meet global copper demand, but the problem is it takes about 20 years between discovering a new copper mineral deposit and getting a permit to build a mine. None of this takes into consideration the upgrades to the electrical infrastructure needed to "electrify: the world by 2050. In short electrifying the world by 2050 is a politicians pipe dream that will never happen. Source: ief.org/focus/ief-reports/co…

I want to provide a little bit of context for the criminal charges recommended by ASIRT - as a consequence of Lethbridge Police Service officers who targeted me while I was a Minister of the Crown.
WOW. Alberta's police watchdog recommended charges against Lethbridge officers who used police databases to improperly access personal information of 2 people, including NDP MLA Shannon Phillips, but the Crown won’t prosecute. Via @CBCMeg

This is an incredibly reasonable, mature response from a politician who has suffered personal consequences from unjust actions. @SPhillipsAB would have been my #1 choice for leader of the ANDP, but I can understand why she didnt want to subject herself and family to more of this
Protecting politicians from unjust harassment from media, law enforcement, and the public, may seem like a sideline issue, but it has a big effect on the quality of people attracted to public service.

The effective tax on new investment in Canada will increase from 13.7 percent to nearly 17 percent. It's probably the largest tax increase you've never heard of.

In January, I said that a competitive leadership contest could end up with Alberta having the largest membership of any provincial NDP party in Canada. Because of the tremendous work of the awesome leadership candidates, over 85,000 people are now Alberta NDP members.
Stunning.
I wish to address some speculation. I will not be seeking the leadership of the Alberta NDP. I’m grateful for @rachelnotley’s service. I wouldn’t be here without her. I will miss her. +

Working on this piece, I found a remarkable stat: over two Danielle Smith budgets, she hiked Alberta provincial spending by 20%. That’s more than NDP over their 4 budgets.

.@RachelNotley built a pipeline to tidewater, the first one in over 70 years. Subsequent UCP policies got us a nothing equivalent.
This is a piece of critical, nation-building infrastructure that will deliver massive economic returns to all Canadians.

Rakhi, you should have stayed in the leadership race. One or two of the current candidates might share this view but are not honest enough to voice it. And if they don't express these opinions can they be trusted?
The completion of TMX is because @RachelNotley and the Alberta NDP understood the assignment of governing.
It’s about acting in the best interests of the people you serve, doing the hard work to listen and persuade Canadians & the federal govt that Alberta’s interests are Canada’s interests, and finding common ground.
Premier Notley achieved what 44 years of PC govts before her and 5 years of UCP govt after her have failed to do - she got a pipeline to tidewater built.
In short, she achieved results for Alberta.
Thank you, Rachel. 🧡
