For those who didn't watch the video: Zack is an immigrant from Syria—and he caught a terrorist from New York. Never forget that immigrants don't make us less safe, they make us safer; and they make New York... New York, every single day.

Today was SAT Day in NYC, an incredible waste of time and money. I get so angry when I think of all the personnel hours that were spent finding activities and rescheduling classes so all juniors could take the SAT in the name of "equity" while everyone else does nothing.

🧵 COVID-19: The unbearable 'mildness' of Omicron The 'Omicron is mild' narrative was seeded very early and is being heavily pushed at the moment by the usual scientists, journalists & politicians. Students of context should be cautious on these grounds alone. (1/15)

8/13/21: a student in my 13 person class tested positive for COVID & I was required to quarantine for 10 days to end the summer. 9/13/21: if a student tests positive in my room, I return to work the next day. What changed over the last month? 🤨

NYC has nearly 7 times more COVID cases today than it did exactly one year ago. Additionally, the current variant is affecting children at much higher rate than last year, and young kids cannot yet get a vaccine. @NYCMayor addressed *none* (1/n)

1- NYC parents, students, & teachers have spoken—the Mayor & the DOE must listen: provide a remote option for families who may need or want it. No one opposes reopening schools in September, but we are still in a pandemic, and delta doesn’t spare kids like earlier variants.

For the record, “this is not who we are” is code for this is not the version of ourselves we wanted revealed. The shock & outrage we are seeing is so much more performative than reflective that it will not be instructive. That is the piece of this debacle that angers me most

By no means perfect, but this helps me talk through what's going on today. More kids stayed that chose the alternate activity. Adapted ideas from @denasimmons instagram post (I'll link in next tweet). #MTBoS #ITeachMath teacher.desmos.com/activityb…

NEW: As schools face a staffing crunch, @NYCSchools will no longer require that blended learning students be given synchronous (aka live) instruction every day they're remote. Live teaching time will vary by school. Fully remote will still get live teaching daily. More soon.

I take attendance every day using "Jam or Not a Jam." I play a song, and there's a Q in Google Classroom asking them if it's a Jam or Not a Jam. Gives us all 4 minutes or so to catch our breath, some music to vibe to, and a classroom culture builder. My fav routine. #dtk12chat
