If you're running a self storage company and have empty units to fill then not investing in Digital PR is a mistake.
Think about the reasons people actually rent storage units.
They're moving house, downsizing, renovating, starting a business, going through a divorce or simply running out of space at home.
Every one of those situations creates opportunities to get your storage company featured in national newspapers.
And while your competitors are getting mentioned on blogs that have 100 visitors a month you could be putting your name out there in front of millions by getting featured in the national press.
As a self storage operator you have valuable knowledge that journalists want to talk about, for example you could explain:
- The five household items you should never store in your garage.
- Why storing expensive furniture in a loft could end up costing you thousands.
- How to fold your clothes at home to maximise space in your closet
While these are just examples, you get what i'm trying to say, these are the kinds of practical stories that publications like the Daily Mail, Mirror, Express, The Sun and Ideal Home could feature.
And when journalists use your expert advice, they could include a backlink to your company's website.
Those backlinks help build your website's authority and can improve your Google rankings for searches like "self-storage near me", "storage units in [your town]" and "business storage".
If you are a self storage company that wants to improve the occupancy rates of your containers book a call with me below:

If I owned a private rehab clinic and wanted to increase patient enquiries, I'd be using digital PR to get my specialists featured in international publications.
And January would be one of the first opportunities I'd target.
Why?
Because the New Year brings a huge amount of conversation around alcohol consumption, Dry January, addiction, mental health and people wanting to make positive changes to their lives.
Journalists are looking for qualified experts who can explain the warning signs of addiction, challenge common misconceptions and offer practical advice to people who might be struggling.
And that's where a private rehabilitation clinic has a real opportunity.
You already have multiple experts in your business such as Addiction specialists, therapists, psychologists and recovery professionals who understand the challenges people face every day so you should be using them.
That knowledge could be turned into national media stories such as:
The early warning signs that someone's drinking habits may be becoming a problem.
Why completing Dry January doesn't necessarily mean you have a healthy relationship with alcohol.
The difference between heavy drinking and alcohol dependence.
The subtle behavioural changes that could indicate someone is struggling with addiction.
All of these are just examples, but highlight what you could be doing to not only help people but get your clinic out there without having to spend hundreds per click on your PPC ads.
When a journalist uses your expertise they often link back to your clinic website which can help strengthen your website's authority, support your organic rankings and improve your visibility when people search for private rehabilitation services, addiction treatment or specialist support.
If you need help with Digital PR and want to get your clinic in the media, book a call with me below:

If you're an interior designer looking to attract more clients then your expertise is one of your biggest marketing assets.
I'm not talking about before and after pictures here on instagram, while they show you know what your talking about, i'm talking about getting featured in top publications like Ideal Home, House Beautiful and even in the national press.
Millions of homeowners want their homes to be more spacious, look better and be more comfortable, but many of them don't know where to start.
They wonder what colours to use, how to make rooms feel bigger, whether their furniture is outdated, how to make a home more luxurious without spending a fortune.
Your audience wants to know about this, but so do journalists too and as an expert in interior design you could be sharing advice with them on:
The five decorating mistakes making your home look cheaper than it actually is.
The paint colours that could make a small bedroom feel even smaller.
Why placing your sofa against the wall isn't always the best way to arrange your living room.
The outdated interior design trends that could be making your home look tired.
These are just examples, but when a journalists runs one of these stories and then links to your website in the content you get instant trust.
This link also strengthens your website's authority, support better organic rankings and help potential clients discover your interior design services through Google.
It's not about getting your name in the paper, it's about showing you have the expertise to transform their home.
If you're an interior designer relying entirely on Instagram, referrals and word of mouth to find your next project, digital PR could open up a completely new way for potential clients to discover your business.

If I owned a car dealership and wanted to sell more vehicles i'd be using Digital PR to get my business featured in national newspapers and their websites. And no I wouldn't be spending thousands promoting individual cars.
Instead id use my knowledge and my teams to earn media coverage from some of the UK's biggest publications.
Think of it this way, buying a car is one of the most important purchases that most peple make and there's a huge amount of uncertainty around it.
Is new or used better in terms of value, should you get an electric car, has the car done too much mileage, you get me.
These are questions people ask themselves and also questions that journalises will be looking to answer for their readers.
As a car dealership or automotive retailer, you could provide expert commentary on:
The five warning signs that a used car might become a money pit.
Why buying a three-year-old car could make more financial sense than buying new.
The car features that could make your vehicle harder to sell in the future.
The biggest mistakes motorists make when part-exchanging their cars.
All topics like The Sun, Express, Daily Mail and more would cover.
And when journalists feature your advice, they could include a backlink to your dealership's website.
Those backlinks can help strengthen your website's authority and improve its visibility in Google.
So when someone searches "Car dealership near me" your business comes up #1 and not your competitors.
More relevant visitors to your website can mean more vehicle enquiries, more test-drive bookings and ultimately more cars sold.

If you run a vaping company you're opperating in an industry where traditional advertising is heavily restricted so digital PR can work really well for vaping brands.
Vaping is always in the news too whether its Disposable vape bans, environmental concerns, changing regulations, illegal products and debates around public health.
Theres always something that journalists could use help with.
And who better to provide that knowledge than someone who works in that industry every day.
If I were running a vaping company and wanted to build my website's authority through digital PR, I'd be looking at stories such as:
What actually happens to disposable vapes when they're thrown in household bins?
The environmental impact of improperly discarded vape batteries.
How consumers can identify potentially illegal or non-compliant vaping products.
The biggest misconceptions surrounding UK vaping regulations.
You could also use reactive PR to jump on anything that's relevant too (We've done this in the past with great success for vaping companies)
Talking about these topics is a great way to get your brand out there, and also build those top tier backlinks that google trusts.
So while your competitors are buying links on websites that everyone else can, you could be earning the best links in the world. When you do this your search traffic increases and so do your sales.
Where most brands go wrong is that your not here to push vaping down everyones throats, your here to be a trusted unbiased source of information in an industry that's constantly making headlines.
For example, before working with vaping brands I had no idea that it's one of the best ways to stop smoking.
So if you can't get enough eyeballs on your brand, and you cant advertise via PPC, then digital PR is a great way to do so.

If I owned a curtain business and wanted to increase sales without paying for ads one of the first things i'd do is start sharing my knowledge with the national press.
By doing so I would be able to earn backlinks from these top tier publications and beat out my competitors with ease.
November, December and January are great months for earning links in the press too because temperatures are dropping and energy bills are rising.
With millions of homeowners looking for ways to keep the heat in and costs down you can help.
You could explain:
Which curtain materials are best for keeping heat inside your home.
Whether thermal curtains are actually worth the extra money.
How curtain length and lining affect heat loss.
Common mistakes homeowners make when choosing winter curtains.
Why closing your curtains at a certain time can help retain warmth.
These are the practical tips that journalists at publications like the Daily Mail, The Mirror, Express, Ideal Home, and many more publications. (We got one of our clients in ideal home 5 times in one month doing this)
But why should you do this?
Authority. Trust, and visibility.
Build all of those and you will build your organic sales pipeline. No need to pay for tire kickers clicking on your ads. You will have free website traffic for years to come.
You just need to turn the knowledge you already have into something journalists want to publish.
That's what Digital PR is all about.
Good links need good stories, we earn links like this for our clients which increases their organic traffic which leads to more sales.
It's simple.
Get better links, get more eyeballs on your product or service.
If you need big links DM Me.
January is one of the best oppertunities for self storage companies to attract new customers and fill empty units.
If i owned a self storage facility, i'd be using digital PR to take advantage of that.
The reason being is that millions of homeowners will head into the New Year with the same goal, to declutter their home.
Everyone knows that Christmas makes clutter in the home worse, you have new toys, new furniture, christmas trees and decorations and everything else in the way.
That means for you, you have an opportunity to help people keep their sanity and also put your name out there as an expert in the space.
For example:
The five household items you should never store in your loft.
Why January is the best time to declutter your home.
The Christmas decorations that could be ruined by storing them in a damp garage.
How to reclaim an entire room in your house without throwing anything away.
Why storing expensive furniture in your garage could be a costly mistake.
These are the types of consumer stories that publications like the Daily Mail, Mirror, Express, The Sun and Ideal Home could cover.
And when journalists feature your advice, they could include a backlink to your storage facility's website.
This helps increase your websites authority, build your backlink profile the right way and ultimately help people find you when they Google "self-storage near me" or "storage units in [your town]".
If you've got vacant storage units going into the New Year, your knowledge of storage and home organisation could be one of your most valuable marketing assets. You just have to put that knowledge in front of the right people.
As a heating engineer or boiler installer winter is more than likely one of your busiest periods and more work may not be something you are looking for, but that doesn't mean you should stop your marketing.
In fact, winter is where you should be doubling down on your marketing so that you see the benefits that carry you through into the next year.
And i'm not talking about spending more on Google Ads.
I'm talking about using something called digital PR which gets your business featured in the national press which helps you to improve your google rankings and ultimatly sales.
Think about it this way. November, December and January are when homeowners begin to rely heavily on their heating and thats where people realise something isn't quite right.
Radiators taking forever to heat up, strange noises coming from the boiler, rooms that never seem to get warm and heating bills that keep climbing.
These are the problems that get homeowners thinking about replacing their old boiler.
As a heating engineer or boiler installer you can share how to fix these with the press and talk about topics like:
The five warning signs your boiler might need replacing before Christmas.
Why an ageing boiler could be costing you more in energy bills.
The strange boiler noises homeowners should never ignore.
How to tell whether your boiler is worth repairing or if it's time for a replacement.
Why your radiators aren't heating up properly, even when the thermostat is turned up.
The common heating mistakes that could be wasting money every winter.
Why waiting until your boiler breaks down could leave you facing a much bigger bill.
The goal here isn't just to earn publicity it's to share knowledge that positions you as the expert in your space.
These stories get featured all the time in UK press and these websites like Daily Mail, The Sun etc will link back to yours.
When they do this google trusts you more, which helps to improve your organic visibility and make it easier for homeowners to find your business when they're searching for a new boiler or heating engineer.
More visibility means more boiler replacement enquiries, more installation quotes and more booked jobs.
If I owned a double glazing company I'd be using the colder months to get my business into the press so i could generate more installation and replacement jobs throughout the next year.
Why?
Because the colder months like November, December and January are when homeowners really start to notice problems with their windows. They notice draughts, condensation, rising heating bills and even rooms that don't seem to warm up.
All of these are problems that get homeowners thinking about replacing their old windows with modern energy effiecent ones.
And that is your opportunity . The work you do now, will affect the work you get all year round.
Rather than paying for tire kickers with PPC ads, you could be sharing your expertise on websites where your customers are already hanging out. Publications like the Daily Mail, Mirror, Express, The Sun and Ideal Home.
As a double glazing specialist, you could explain:
The five warning signs that your double glazing needs replacing.
Why your heating bills could be higher because of ageing windows.
How to tell whether condensation means your double glazing has failed.
Why some rooms stay cold even when the heating is turned up.
How much heat can escape through poorly insulated windows.
Whether replacing old double glazing could save homeowners money on energy bills.
Why repairing damaged window seals isn't always the best long-term solution.
These are stories your potential customers care about, while it positions you as the expert in your space.
Not only do you build that trust, but these types of links also help your website show up higher on google when someone searches for "double glazing near me" and "double glazing window installation in (your area)".
The end goal isn't just getting your company mentioned in the press. It's generating more window replacement enquiries, booking more surveys and selling more windows.
If you are a sofa or furniture retailer then the next few months are a golden opportunity to earn backlinks in the media and increase online sales. While no doubt this is a busy time for you, the work you do now will carry through into the new year and beyond.
Millions of people will be preparing their homes for Christmas right now and many of them will be looking for new furniture. You can get infront of these people by getting your brand featured in the press.
Journalists are always looking for practical advice that helps their readers solve everyday problems, especially when there's a seasonal angle.
As a furniture retailer, you could share your expertise on:
The Christmas foods and drinks that could permanently stain your sofa.
Why putting your sofa too close to a radiator could damage it.
The best sofa fabrics for families with children and pets.
How to remove common Christmas party stains without ruining your upholstery.
The furniture mistakes that could make a small living room feel even smaller.
Why your Christmas tree placement could be damaging your furniture.
How to protect expensive sofas and dining chairs when hosting Christmas guests.
These kinds of stories get in publications like The Daily Mail, Ideal Home, The Sun, Express and many more, all of where your customers are hanging out.
When you share your knowledge the press will use it, link back to your website and help to push those sales for you.
Getting linked to from online publications like these builds trust, authority and rankings which drive sales.
If you're selling sofas, dining tables, armchairs or other household furniture, you've already got the expertise needed to create stories worth publishing.
If you have empty storage units and you want to fill them before the end of the year then Christmas is one of your biggest opportunities to do so.
Millions of households will face the same problems with not having enough space to hold their decorations, trees, spare furniture for the Christmas dinner, and the extra load of toys that Santa will be bringing down the chimney.
All of this leads to a lack of space in the home.
As a storage expert its your job to share the tips and tricks you have learned throughout your time in the industry so you can help people with practical advice on everything from storing Christmas trees without damaging them to the household items that shouldn't be kept in a cold, damp garage.
These are stories that national publications and home improvement websites could feature, with a backlink pointing directly to your storage company's website.
These links do more than just give you publicity, they strengthen your authority, build trust and help potential customers find your facilities when they are looking for self-storage in your area.
More visibility, more enquires , more occupied units.
If i owned a bed or mattress company and wanted to increase sales without having to pay for expensive PPC clicks, one of the first things that I would do i start earning backlinks from top tier publications.
The best part is this time of year is great for doing so because the colder weather, darker mornings and shorter days can all affect how well we sleep, and millions of people are looking for ways to get a better night's rest.
As a bed retailer you have the knowledge that journalists would love to share with their readers, in fact I bet you are already sharing it on your blog right now.
Things like:
Why sleeping with the heating on could be affecting your sleep quality.
The ideal bedroom temperature for a good night's sleep.
Why your mattress could be making you feel colder at night.
How often you should actually replace your pillows and mattress.
Why certain sleeping positions can leave you waking up with aches and pains.
How your choice of bedding can affect your body temperature throughout the night.
All of these work, we know we earn up to 50 links a month for some of our bedroom retailers.
The reason why they work is because all of us are sleep deprived and seasonal and practical stories like this get covered all the time in publications like The Sun, Express, Mirror, Ideal Home and more.
When a journalist uses your content, they will then link back or mention your website.
That means more trust, authority and a better backlink profile which all go to increasing your website traffic and sales!
If you're a bed, mattress or bedding brand and you're not using your expertise to earn media coverage, you're missing out on opportunities to get your business in front of thousands of potential customers.
A guy only wanted to pay for our digital PR services if we could guarantee that he would make £90,000 from it because thats what happened to one of his competitors.
Mental
You can't invest in digital PR once and then walk away.
While everyone may promise the world, in reality the biggest competitors in your space will have run digital pr link building for years. So expecting one campaign to help you to outrank them it isn't going to happen.
For example we know that one of our clients competitors used to spend £50,000 to £70,000 a month on digital PR campaigns. You could have the best digital PR agency in the world, run 10 campaigns and you still won't outrank them.
People not from this world think that's extortionate because they probably see those agencies that charge £250 a month and think that your being ripped off, but the reality is while SEO can be highly profitable, it can also be expensive to get off the ground and get you results.
If you can't invest in digital pr for months, then don't do it
A client had spent thousands on guest posts with another agency and they lost over 10,000 searches over the course of a year.
Now this wasn't 100% down to the agency doing anything bad, but they hadn't noticed that the search results had changed.
They had gone from smaller brands who were winning with these guest posts, to larger more trusted brands that Invest in Digital PR.
So while it's obvious to some people it may not be obvious to others.
Check the search, see what ranks, and keep checking month on month.
Knowing you rank position 5 isn't enough, you need to know where your competitors rank too and where changes are happening
When running PR campaigns you can't write about your product or service most of the time, so you need to come up with something your audience cares about.
This piece for example was for a client that sold mattresses, so if we spoke about springs or foam toppers it wouldnt have got any coverage.
However, people are conscious about having the heating on (bills) so a piece talking about not putting the heating on and sleeping in a colder room, naturally is going to generate interest.
A massive mistake I see when auditing websites is businesses throwing thousands at link building when their on page content isn't up to standard.
Most businesses will think that because a web designer or marketer has put their page tofether then its suitable for search but 99.99% of the time it isn't
Google doesn't rank websites randomly.
So you can't randomly put content together.
Company 1 hires an SEO agency to build them backlinks. They spend $2000 a month and buy them links from other websites that advertise that they sell links.
Company 1's competitors also do the same thing. Now no one really stands out.
Company 2 do the above, and invest in digital PR for the next 6 months.
Company 2 have links from top tier publications like NY Post, The BBC, Independant, The Metro etc.
Company 2 has built a moat around their rankings.
Sure the search engines will change, but company 2 is in a better position than the first.
Which company you decide to be will ultimately decide how your website will perform over the next year or two.
