BNM MPC just increased OPR to 3.00% from 2.75% 😱 I've tweeted on OPR before, but what does this mean for investors, especially those in property? Just nice, I'll be discussing this and more with @taniherng (my favourite property Youtuber) Saturday at SJCC. Come listen!

Good move from BNM, can't come soon enough. TLDR: moving from BLR to BR in 2015 was OK to reduce confusion (huh, got discount off BLR?) but created another comparability problem (differing BRs across banks). BR to SBR completes the job. (ctd in full thread)
Effective 1 August 2022, the Standardised Base Rate will become the reference rate for new retail floating-rate loans for individuals. ringgitplus.com/en/blog/bank…

This is actually quite catastrophic. To give everyone a sense of the scale: - 50% of working Malaysians earned less than RM2,062 a month in 2020. - the income drop from 2019 to 2020 has set incomes back ~10 years if you take into account inflation rates.
Mean monthly salaries & wages fell 9.0% in 2020, the first time decline since the series began in 2010. #StatsMalaysia #MyCensus2020 #MenghitungMalaysia #DataAndaMasaDepanKita #PastikanAndaDibanci #ARC2021

Following on from last week's post on Malaysia's loan moratorium extension weighing up both sides of the argument I believe there is an optimal way forward for both consumers and banks. Let's see what happens at 3pm!

It’s #Budget2020 day today. A little less groundbreaking than last year with the change of government, but no less important or exciting. Waiting to see what’s in store, and the @RinggitPlus team will be on tap pretty much the whole day to ensure folks get the key highlights.
Recently, @Visa and @RinggitPlus did a Financial Literacy Survey, asking Malaysians if they know how to manage their money. Because the findings are very interesting, I decided to ask @ooihann over and ask him about the results. Tonight, 10.30pm, on @501Awani

Government the same deal for less (through tendering, renegotiation, cancellations) hits right at the heart of what consumers should be doing too with their personal finances. #Budget2019 @RinggitPlus
