Off-Panel w/ Tyson J. Rock

Marketing, finances, networking, persistence. These are all fundamental components of making and selling indie comics. And while all extremely important, one aspect is most essential of all. And that is passion. Without passion as the great motivator, none of it matters. Sometimes I lose the drive to make comics. And when that happens, it is okay. No passion, no problem. No more pressure to get things done. No more campaigns. No more worrying about printing, shipping, storage, deadlines, podcasts, funds. More time to play games, go on vacation, or simply do nothing. But those moments never last long. An artist sends me an awesome new page. Stacks of freshly printed books arrive at my door. An idea for a story or character suddenly hits me and gets me excited again. And just like that, I am refuelled. When that fire burns bright, I want it to burn forever. Sometimes I am afraid that one day it will go out and never rekindle. But somewhere underneath that fear, there is another part of me. A part that quietly longs for that day.
