Mario Kart 8 Deluxe v4.0.0 update ships different exefs (game's executable/code) to Switch 1 and Switch 2. Unfortunately, code for 8 screens and 8 players is only present for the Switch 2 update of the game. The 8 player buttons on Switch 1 are fake and serves as adversiting

Please note that in the Wii U version of the game, you do not honk by pressing the item use button when the item slot is spinning, differently from Deluxe. So it isn't possible that they "honked to stop the roulette quicker"
