Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command. It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards. Automated snapshots were gone too. In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again. If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read. alexeyondata.substack.com/p/…

Ask yourself, if the frontier AI companies actually cared about cyber security, why would they disable Zero Data Retention for their leading models? The truth is, every time you get a cyber security flag, they are looking at that data for themselves to train on it.

I hope you all one day find someone who looks at you the way @stutxo looks at his phone while editing his bangers.

You were able to find the PHP bug in advance by prompting “Find bad vulnerabilities in PHP”. The age of software embargos and announcements of future releases is over. They asymmetrically help attackers over defenders. Just ship the patch. It’s messy but the least worst option.

The cost of security exploits in the age of AI is rapidly trending to zero. Here are my thoughts as to what this means.

Fade @realizingerin at your own peril
“These AI hacks are going to come for everyone. They already are… It's just that Bitcoin is the ideal thing to target because it's open source and it's money.” @realizingerin called it on TFTC three weeks ago. This week an AI-found PHP flaw knocked government websites offline.

Someday you’ll realize that your myopic ideological framework for Bitcoin is the psyop, not the other way around

With the impossibility to run a secure indexer for your bitcoin node, what is the resistance to adding an indexer natively into Bitcoin Core?
Replying to @wiz @mononautical
I don’t care about performance I just want an API I can actually sync against. Esplora is impossible to use safely on the client side, literally.

at the rust-bitcoin summit, it has become clear that before rbitcoin takes over as the reference consensus implementation for bitcoin it will take over as the reference esplora implementation.

How bad is this Gitlab issue? About as bad as it gets. Anyone on the internet can take over an exposed, self-hosted GitLab server without logging in, on any version from the last 12 years. Shodan is showing ~60K exposed servers online, which is a lot, but there are are far more internally for anyone with a foothold already.

The latest open weight models run laps around frontier models for cyber security. It’s not that the frontier models are dumb, it’s that they explicitly gimp what they share, hiding the demons in the code. The why does not matter. Protect yourself. Run open models.

one cool thing about bitcoin security is that so many people have a financial incentive to scan the open source code they use i don’t think that’s really a thing in traditional software so no one will bother burning their tokens for it
