Making an extremely rare appearance on the Hellsite because I thought I'd check where the #photography community is emigrating to. Is Mastodon still the main destination or are folks jumping on Bluesky?

If anyone is on Bluesky, I'm @rbiondo.bsky.social over there Mastodon I had but the server is dead so will be back on soon

Well, wow. Looks like it's been almost 2 years since I've been active here. I almost forgot this account existed! Suppose that's what happens when you have a child and the first two years go with the blink of an eye. What have I missed?

I've said it before and I'll day it again: the One More Stop server is a fantastic community and one that shows incredible levels of generosity of each other. I myself mentioned about half-frame and today I received this wonderful gift and I'm genuinely touched.

Some people will really say any odd shit to get attention. However, no surprise it's the grifter promoting the grifting art model. And I use the word art in the loosest possible senses.
What does it say that AI is more capable of producing beautiful art than "real" human artists who produce Corporate Memphis?

Poor choice of headline aside, Fan Ho was a fantastic photographer and it's probably because of him that the whole abstract minimalist bow street photography is a thing.
Harry Kane completely fucked that penalty but I bet you the media and the English (read male, white) pub commentariat will still find a way to blame the likes of Saka, Rashford or Bellingham. Apparently it's always the brown boys' fault even when it's the white guy that fucks up.

It's all about the Three Lions until the music stop and then we turn against the brown folks. It's uncanny how football mirrors British society.
They took out 50% of their colonial rulers, here's for hoping they take out the other 50%. And tbh, why not have an African country win the tournament overall?

For the first time in almost 12 years living in England I've not been a passive observer and now actually hope they beat the French. But this may be the Italian in me with ITA-FRA unresolved football trauma. In any case, this is a very tasty game!
This actually came up for conversation in the OMS server and it was food for thought. Not only do you get to listen to stuff that may not be on Spotify but you actually support the artist and, let's face it, the quality of audio is so so much better.

With the arrival of baby and me going back to work, me and my wife sleep in shifts. This means that I get the evening to myself (with hopefully a sleeping baby). I've used this time to actually go on photographers' website on a desktop browser rather than through a phone. 1/

And my god it's such a great experience! I had been on some of these photographers' websites before on my phone but the experience simply does not compare. It sounds stupid but now I get why @MrJackLowe feels so strongly about having a website. 2/2
Looking back at some stuff I shot with the Coolpix and thinking of just how liberating it was to walk around with a consumer digicam in my pocket at all times, shooting in a way I never did and not getting too hung up on the results. #photography

Turns out that in the dilemma I posed the other day re. @MSF video, the answer is that they thought people are stupid.
In taking down their anti-racism video @msf say 'on this film we have repeated some mistakes of the past'. If that's the case how can the 'mistakes' be 'of the past'?

Tokenism is one hell of a drug. And looks like @MSF are getting high on their own supply. That or they genuinely think we're that stupid and will go away because of a video.
Every single example of patient exploitation sent to MSF's board last May is still for sale. Only the kids with cholera wall art wall prints are down. Square that with @msf @lindishurum 'anti-racism' video. video. Anyone? msfchildprotect.wordpress.co…

Been on a photobook binge only curtailed by lack of funds. For some reason ended on this and did think it's a pretty interesting look at phonebooks. I for one definitely think that the internet age has helped a lot. 1/ aperture.org/editorial/has-t…

Very much like for the music industry it has been a bit of a double edged sword but at the same time it has allowed a certain level of freedom to create that is just fantastic. The freedom to publish whatever the editors and curators at the publishing house want is a godsend. 2/

It allows for things that the 'mainstream' publishing world would not be interested in or allows lesser known photographers to have a chance to get their work out to a wider audience. The same way the internet has helped independent labels and bands thrive. 3/3
