Just because you don’t understand what a tariff is doesn’t mean the market doesn’t. The market gets it perfectly: tariffs are taxes on your own people. That’s why it just erased trillions in value in under 48 hours. You can scream about “retaliation” and “abuse,” but investors, businesses, and families see the reality: This isn’t strength. It’s economic self-sabotage. And for everyone out there clapping—get ready to pay 104% more for washing machines, ovens, grills, bikes, phones, TVs, tools, batteries, lightbulbs, medical equipment, and everything else you didn’t know came from China. Because slogans don’t keep your fridge running.

Some people think the electoral value of being in power is being able to set the agenda and force the opposition to talk about issues it’s weak on. The current govt seems to think it’s about setting up new regulators to save your opponents the trouble once they get in.

THAT is when your real commitment to Free Speech is tested: when someone is saying something you believe absolutely wrong and incredibly despicable. If you still stand by their right to voice their opinion, THEN you really believe in free speech.

I've said this before: the single easiest way you can improve the lives of the bulk of US citizens (and the bulk of Europeans too) is to eliminate restrictions on real estate development. Housing will become far cheaper, but that's just the most obvious benefit.

Buggy or not, code is *speech* and state-imposed obligations tread upon prior restraint & chilled speech. Sure, emplace quality standards on industries like medical or aerospace hardware; but across-the-board this approach is illiberal and misconceived. berthub.eu/articles/posts/eu…

Here's a highly compressed 1080p preview of my footage. This is easily the best launch footage I have ever captured, stay tuned for the full launch to landing in 4K! Big thanks to @LCS_Big_Mike for running the focuser for me! @DJSnM @Erdayastronaut @spacestationguy @RedsRhetoric

No. People wanted to live that way, because it’s comfortable and pleasant, and because anti-growth fanatics made urban development too expensive in much of the world. Contempt for human comfort is common in certain circles of course, but it’s wholly unreasonable.

In 1976, a solar cell producing one watt of power cost $106. By 1990, it was $8.81; by 2010, it was $2.04. Today it’s less than 38 cents. Fewer resources used to get the thing we need. This – doing more with less, across the whole economy – is what economic growth actually is.

In the not that distant future, we’re going to be able to make major crops fix their own nitrogen and offer enhanced nutrition, and if half the world remains hostile to direct genetic modification, the impact on both the environment and human health is going to be terrible.

The US announces that it isn’t just going to take the word of European regulators that European formula is safe, even though it’s an emergency, even though European formula regulations are stricter. I blame the administration for refusing to restrain the FDA.

Breaking News on #messenger #interoperability — Assistant Director Bryan Vorndran of the @FBI "Cyber" division (not historically noted as friends of end-to-end encryption) observes that interop as-called-for in the #DMA will *weaken* encryption: nitter.gq/ericgeller/status/1508…

Lofgren: Do you agree that messaging app interoperability requirements (like in the EU's new Digital Markets Act) could create security vulnerabilities by weakening the encryption that each platform uses? Vorndran: “Yes, ma’am.”

#QOTD: It's very popular to say things like "It's wrong to profit off of human suffering." Somehow, people never mean that it's wrong to profit from *causing* human suffering when they say this; they mean that it's wrong to profit from *preventing* human suffering - @AlexMennen

How much does NYC hate business? Here's the fine schedule being implemented to terrorize NYC businesses for the terrible offenses of giving someone a plastic straw, and also NOT giving someone a plastic straw. Didn't post a sign about plastic straws? That'll cost you too.

Loads of corporate execs busy googling which nations are in the G7 and G20, and, more importantly, which aren't, cos that's where they're now looking to relocate to.

This is really weird. He is tweeting, time after time, ‘Really excited about my plan to make the housing crisis worse.’ Rent control has failed everywhere it’s been tried. He doesn’t need it to win. Why not actually build some houses instead?
Private renting in London needs to change and over two-thirds of Londoners support rent control. Good to meet with @genrentuk today and make clear my commitment to campaigning for rent controls in our city, building a brighter future for renters.

The government should not get involved in football. If only fans knew the power they had in a free market!
