Buriram 1-0 up in Osaka. The hosts have had most of the play and missed some decent chances but Buriram have been dogged. Glad the ref allowed the goal. Keepers are pampered far too often.

The “atmosphere” is so monotonous. They might as well just play a CD of generic crowd noise. No nuance relating to what’s happening on the pitch.

2-0 Johor v Port and deserved on play so far. One a screamer, the other fortunate. What a huge gulf in quality between this competition and the Thai League, on and off the pitch. I love the Thai League for fun days out, but my word.

I did a quick check today. Jefinho has been brilliant so far for Sisaket. He was signed from a 4th tier club in Brazil. There are 96 clubs playing at that level. Always interesting when people ask “what’s a comparable standard”.

Got to feel for Rasisalai. Sisaket scrambled to promotion last season. Otherwise Rasi would have been the province’s no.1. Then moved out of their stadium because of a successful Kings Cup bid. Lose their coach. Tonight 2,000 tops at their game. Huge momentum swing.

Surin City 1 Roi Et PB United 1 Thai League 3 Northeast 👨‍👨‍👧‍👧 c250 🎟️ 60 THB (£1.35) The first 30 minutes were instantly forgettable, improving slightly. The second half was end-to-end blood and thunder, and a shame when it ended. Game played at a lovely little university venue.

Surin was brilliant. Great company and a fantastic night out. Few places see a group of farangs preferring the strip of Thai bars over those aimed at Westerners. Inexpensive, vibrant, good live bands and football on TV. A quality hotel nearby. What more do you want?
