I'll be discussing the 2004 Ashton Kutcher film the Butterfly Effect (among other things) on another social media app. (I will probably not do this but just look for another social media app with a butterfly and find DarthFeta)

What’s a polite way to tell someone, β€œI’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

Poverty increases desperation and social alienation. Feeling connected to the benefits of being a part of a society increases prosocial behavior. Disconnection from those benefits decreases prosocial behavior. Impunity and isolation from normal society because of extreme wealth can also decrease prosocial behavior. Some people are shits regardless of the situation. It’s a game of tendencies and risk factors. We all want to build a society in which people’s work is rewarded and bit of bad luck doesn’t doom someone for life. Extreme inequality makes that harder. This is all pretty well-trodden ground.

I still can’t get over that Alito basically said racism was over and then conservatives agreed by deleting every black district in the south in like 2 seconds

🚨Nobody wants to hear this but it needs to be said. > Scientists put human brain cells in a petri dish. No body. Just neurons on a chip. > It learned to play DOOM in under a week. > 800,000 neurons figured out how to navigate, shoot, and survive a video game without ever being alive. your brain has 86 BILLION neurons and you can't even finish a side project. we're being outperformed by lab equipment. Wrap it up.

Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. But right now, they’re under attack. Several Republican-controlled states have redrawn their congressional maps to give themselves an unfair advantage in the midterm elections. Now Virginia has a chance to help level the playing field. If you live in the Commonwealth, early voting begins March 6, and Election Day is on April 21. Vote YES.

MAGA Calls Democrats "Communists" The claim: Democrats are communists/Marxists/socialists trying to destroy America The reality: β€’ Democrats support regulated capitalism, not seizing means of production β€’ No abolition of private property β€’ No worker ownership of industry β€’ Even the progressive wing (Bernie, AOC) are democratic socialists at most β€” advocating Nordic-style social programs within capitalism β€’ Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer = pro-business centrists by global standards Verdict: Absurd propaganda. Democrats are center-left capitalists, closer to European Christian Democrats than to actual communists. Democrats Call MAGA "Fascists/Nazis" The claim: MAGA is a fascist movement The reality - Check against Umberto Eco's 14 characteristics of fascism: βœ… 1. Cult of tradition - "Make America Great Again" mythology βœ… 2. Rejection of modernism - Anti-education, anti-expertise, anti-science βœ… 3. Action for action's sake - "Fight fight fight!" without coherent policy βœ… 4. Disagreement is treason - RINO purges, loyalty tests, "enemy of the people" βœ… 5. Fear of difference - Xenophobia, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim βœ… 6. Appeal to frustrated middle class - Economic anxiety exploitation βœ… 7. Nationalism + conspiracy - Deep state, globalists, replacement theory βœ… 8. Enemies weak AND strong - "Snowflake libs" yet powerful deep state βœ… 9. Pacifism is treason - Questioning Ukraine aid = unpatriotic βœ… 10. Contempt for the weak - Mocking disabled, POWs, immigrants βœ… 11. Cult of heroism - Jan 6 "patriots," martyrdom complex βœ… 12. Machismo - Toxic masculinity, contempt for women βœ… 13. Selective populism - Trump speaks for "real Americans" only βœ… 14. Newspeak - "Alternative facts," constant redefinition of terms Additional fascist markers: β€’ Attempted coup (Jan 6) β€’ Rejection of democratic norms β€’ Strongman worship β€’ Scapegoating minorities β€’ Undermining free press β€’ Loyalty purges β€’ Nostalgic nationalism Verdict: MAGA checks nearly every box for fascist movement characteristics. Which Is Closer to Truth? Democrats calling MAGA fascist: Descriptive and evidence-based β€’ Based on observable behavior matching fascist characteristics β€’ Documented in political science literature β€’ Matches historical patterns MAGA calling Democrats communist: Pure projection/propaganda β€’ No evidence of actual communist policies β€’ Used to radicalize base and justify extremism β€’ Classic authoritarian tactic (make enemies sound existential) The Key Difference Democrats: Center-left regulated capitalists (European-style social democracy) MAGA: Authoritarian nationalist movement with textbook fascist characteristics Why MAGA Uses "Communist" It's strategic projection: 1. Justifies extremism - "We have to be extreme because they're communists!" 2. Historical baggage - Americans fear communism (Cold War conditioning) 3. Muddies the waters - "Both sides use scary labels, so ignore them all" 4. Primes the base - When Democrats call MAGA fascist (accurately), it sounds like tit-for-tat The Uncomfortable Truth One side is using hyperbolic propaganda. The other is making an accurate historical comparison. MAGA isn't "like Nazis" in every detail (no Holocaust, no world war yet). But they're running the same playbook that brought fascists to power historically: β€’ Undermine democratic institutions βœ“ β€’ Cult of personality βœ“ β€’ Nationalism + scapegoating βœ“ β€’ Attack free press βœ“ β€’ Reject election results βœ“ β€’ Attempt coup βœ“ β€’ Purge intellectuals/expertise βœ“ Democrats aren't anywhere close to communism. They're not even close to European social democrats. MAGA is disturbingly close to historical fascism. That's not partisan rhetoric β€” it's pattern recognition.
