I want to help young players get better at pitching. I've spent the last 30 years continually improving at the craft in a way I think is exceptionally unique. While 99% of pitchers train in the exact same way with the same cues and drills, I've found a completely different, often antithetical approach has worked for me. I think it will help others too. This offseason I'm offering a one-on-one remote coaching service, as well as continuing to make more YouTube videos explaining the concepts I believe are fundamental to MLB pitchers. Big vs. small market equity is sports’ version of the population vs. state representation argument. Extremes aren't the right answer, it's somewhere in the middle. Players shoulder some sacrifice to help things be equitable and so do owners. Salary cap is all players.

The ABS zone is shorter than the previous zone. Not sure what he's talking about...

A salary cap seems like wanting to split the dividends of a stock and none of the appreciation. If the stock doesn’t pay a dime in dividends but goes up in value, it’s obviously a valuable stock. The second a salary cap is inked franchise values would SOAR. Clear L for players.
I don't know what the conditions are for MLBPA accepting a salary cap. But MLB's approach to splitting the pie is "OK, we'll split the pie, but everything that grows is going to be over here in MLB's pie store, and we're not fucking sharing any of that"

It’s not an accident if you look at total player earnings vs franchise values, MLB players make 50% more than the other leagues. Some of NFL/NHL/NBA franchise value is BECAUSE they don’t have to pay the players near what they’re worth in a free market.

Baseball games are broadcast by guys who have a really poor grasp of what actual analytics are, and then fans interpret what they’re hearing poorly. It’s a terrible game of “telephone”. If these guys actually understood what “analytics” are they wouldn’t have a problem with them.
I miss when "hitting" actually meant "getting a hit" in a game, rather than some MS in Data Science saying you had "superb exit velocity" in BP.

For instance every coach and player knows you shouldn’t worry about if the ball fell in for a hit. You should worry about if you hit it on the screws because over time hitting it well leads to a good outcome. Can’t beat yourself up for an unlucky game. “Analytics” just defines what it means to hit the ball well or not.

This is one example of 100. Analytics is process oriented over short term results. Like any coach ever strives to be. Some guys just really hate putting an actual value on what those processes and results look like.

Loved Digger. Incredible acting. Almost a modern "Dr. Strangelove". Not quite as good, but that's asking for perfection. High quality movie, not sure why the critics are so wrong on this one.

It's fun not caring who wins because then you just root for maximum mayhem.

Down 3-2 in a series, game theory would tell you not to prioritize winning game 6 if it lessens your chance of winning both 6 and 7. But entertainment value would tell you yes definitely prioritize winning today so we can all watch game 7!

I routinely watch videos of guys at “facility” tryouts flash sexy velocity in January and then tune back in to see how they’re chucking in July - it’s RARELY the same.
A point a farm director told us on pro FAs: Signing "facility" arms is a gamble; they don't always work on stuff to prepare them for seasonal workload. Make sure as you "stay ready" that you ARE ready for a role assignment. Pro FAs don't have luxury of time before games!

Knowing how to spike your velo in a perfectly rested facility setting, and knowing how to sustain the velo for a full season are completely different animals. If there’s 100 different ways to throw fast, there’s only 10 different ways to throw fast AND healthy.

The top 5 spending teams in the 4 major NA sports vs the bottom 5 spending. NFL top/bot are equally bad at winning. NHL and NFL have a bigger disparity in winning than MLB, despite a massive gap in spending differences.

Are these payrolls exact? Probably not, it's publicly available opening day payrolls. But I don't think it's going to be different enough to make the gist different. And if it is, please enlighten me!

The irony of the "small ball" Brewers completely mogging the Dodgers in long ball / high-velocity baseball.
