We had to send Hershey across the rainbow bridge today. When the pandemic had us all creating home offices, I settled in next to his cage where he became a constant presence on my Zooms jumping on his box for raisins. I will miss my office buddy. He was loved.

A vacation overcome by workplace events. But any time with family, the beach house, and a trip to the lighthouse on my bike is precious nonetheless. Until next time Oak Island.
They let me do the Breakroom podcast. I talked about bank robbery, ties going to the runner, Bruno Mars, and magic wands. Enjoy.

Dentalcare would like a word with you.
I’m going to start a support group for health reporters who are horrified that @APStylebook is making health care one word. Who wants in?
Did my best, but @DebraCurtisDC got in the last word. As usual. Give it a listen if you have some time. Happy Holidays!

As discussed in this @InHealthPolicy article, the federal regulatory machine is still moving during the shutdown.
While the major Medicare payment rules could be delayed, they could wind up being released on time on November 1 since they are statutorily required!
Also, the Inside Health Policy article discusses the last two Regs & Eggs blog posts: one related to the shutdown co-authored by Erin Fuller and the other related to Medicare spending coauthored by Parashar Patel. With respect to the Medicare spending regs and eggs blog post:
“McDermott+ analyzed the proposed PFS and hospital outpatient pay rules in a recent blog and determined policymakers should look for other ways to control costs in Medicare fee-for-service.
“Rising Medicare spending may continue to put pressure on policymakers, including Congress and CMS, to develop cost-cutting approaches, despite the fact that Medicare payment rates have already been squeezed,” the McDermott+ Regs & Eggs post says. “Medicare actuaries project that Medicare payment rates will not drive future growth in Medicare spending.””
