Replying to @NormanWhiteside
@NormanWhiteside was a hero of mine, and of MANY United fans by the mid-1980s. “The Youngest” broke a whole load of records as he trailblazed his way into English football’s highest echelons in 1982/83/84. This piece tells the story of those early days, mufc1878web.wordpress.com/20…

Of course, the fact that they’ve probably only found out yesterday that Eddie Howe has a £6m compensation tag attached to hiring him has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with their decision to keep Michael in place for another few weeks…🫪🤷🏼‍♂️🙄 £63.5m for “land”. 🫪 #MUFC #GlazersOUT

I’m 55 years of age; a Red since 1977. I have now come to the acceptance that I will never see another @ManUtd captain lift the @premierleague trophy in my lifetime. I can’t tell you how much that hurts. I can’t express just how much I despise the #Glazer family. Numb. #MUFC

So Michael Carrick stays for now, according to reports. Good – because he cares deeply about the Club and, whatever his limitations as a manager, Carrick is not the real problem at United. The problem patently lies in recruitment/ownership. Recruitment needs addressing with a clear-out and proper investment in players with the right character as well as the right ability (and in the right positions, starting with defence). But the concerns are obvious. Will the players who doubt him raise their game? What will happen if they surrender again, this time at Chelsea? Will Bruno Fernandes start or remain captain? Is it also simply a case of the club playing for time while they pursue potential successors? It seems an uneasy truce, a temporary ceasefire. Let's hope the players, whatever they think of Carrick, look in the mirror, realise they are very much part of the problem, take responsibility and fight for the cause. United players owe it to the fans. #MUFC

THIS. I can’t & won’t condone what @B_Fernandes8 has done over the past few days; HOWEVER the man is at the same breaking-point as the rest of us who LOVE Manchester United Football Club-he can’t take any more of this ownership either. They have broken promises to him too. #MUFC
Bruno Fernandes has reached his breaking point at Manchester United, as Captain he cannot do what he has. He has given everything to the club since January 2020, carrying them on his back time & again. His love, commitment & loyalty cannot be questioned. He has been patient, given his best years to owners & decision makers who have broken promises & failed over & over to get this thing right. He's had enough. There are countless examples of what he has done for the club on & off the pitch, I don't need to recount the stories. He has so much credit in the bank, it is sad to see people throw it all away because of this. Bruno isn't the problem. He's had enough of the real problem, if you can't understand that I can't help you. We are sick of cycle & clearly so is he - can you blame him? We're talking about a human being, not a robot. We demand perfection, he isn't perfect - but he could not have given more to us. We should try & remember that before talking about him on days like today, because I don't blame him for being fed up. I am too. I don't condone what he has done in the past week, but doesn't mean at the same time I don't understand it. How much can someone give before being at their wits end. He needed to be better, but deserves better too.

Would I accept @ManUtd being relegated if it finally persuaded the #Glazers to sell their majority holdings in the club? ABSOLUTELY, in a heartbeat. Sadly, I don’t believe even that would be enough to rid us of that utter vermin. There is no bright future for United. #MUFC

THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. @ManUtd #MUFC #GlazersOUT
Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.  Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise. Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers. Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.  Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

Just for the record, I wouldn’t have dropped Bruno, but I guess we’ll see if the others can win a game without him. Looking at both lineups, you can see just how much MC has been hung out to dry by the summer inactivity. Mbeumo up top, Dalot still there.🤷🏼‍♂️ Hope it works. #MUFC

Put some bloody EFFORT in today please, @ManUtd… it’s the least Michael and the long suffering fans deserve. At least pretend you care about the club who pay your exorbitant wages. Realise the privilege you’ve been given. 🫪🤷🏼‍♂️ #MUNBOU #MUFC

If it wasn’t for @OfficialBlues putting in a phenomenal run of good displays & results, the Irish League title “race” would already be a procession…🫪🤷🏼‍♂️ It seems like we are the only club to have stepped up to offer Coleraine any kind of challenge this season. #AFJ #FIOS

No matter what happens now, I’m more than proud to have a great MAN like @carras16 as a legend of our club. He embodies all that is still good at #ManchesterUnited, just a decent man & a great player in his day. He doesn’t deserve any of the noise that’s surrounded him lately.

Sadly, Melissa is absolutely correct. She knows who’s to blame, and ultimately it isn’t Michael Carrick, he’s just the latest “fall guy” for this rotten ownership. #MUFC
It doesn’t matter who is linked with becoming Manchester United manager, because whatever the name (and most of those in circulation have previously already been ruled out), they are set up to fail. The parasitic Glazer ownership has bled and broken the club, putting a financial noose around it. In 2024, Sir Jim Ratcliffe talked a big game about a “three-year plan” to rival and outdo Manchester City and Liverpool. But the decision-making under INEOS’ charge of football operations has not just been woeful, but costly too. There is zero accountability for expensive mistake after expensive mistake. There is still no clear direction on club identity, including style of play, which leads to profiling the right signings and manager. That was a major promise made by Ratcliffe, which hasn’t been kept. To borrow his own words: “There have been a whole series of coaches, some of which were very good. And none of them were successful, or survived for very long. The only conclusion you can draw is that the environment in which they were working didn’t work.” It still doesn’t. It never will as long as the people who own and run the club betray Manchester United and what is required to be successful in the modern era. You can harp on about structure, vision, and sell fanciful projects, but you will never have the right operation with the wrong people.
