Chris Fowler shares a must-listen message on coaching and why it's more than just a profession.
"You have been nasty and irrational and deeply personal in your criticism of coaches from time to time. If you're a sports fan, I guarantee it. I've certainly been guilty."
"But do you know why coaches choose that as a profession in the first place?"
"Almost every single one of them - because they want to help people learn, grow, and improve as people and as athletes. I promise you, that's why they get into it."
"Coaching is a calling more than a profession. Lee Corso taught me that a long time ago."
It's one of the greatest examples of being a servant leader. It's pouring yourself into the growth of other people.
"You have to have what it takes to pour yourself into others in order to make a difference. Not everybody can do that."
"Yes, they're accountable for the wins and losses. But consider that so much of that is actually beyond their control. You're accountable for it. You're responsible for it. How much do you really control it?"
"Know the grind. What each and every coach at whatever level puts into it - whether you're a coach in Little League or AAU or high school - what they put into that is so demanding on them and their loved ones."
The sacrifices are invisible and the criticism is public.
"Consider them as human beings when you rip into them."
"I promise you, at their heart, they just wanna help people. That's the greatest joy they get out of it."
Coaching is a calling.
The wins feel good.
But watching someone become who they're capable of becoming that's why they do it.

What happens after freshman year?
We tracked PBR's top 30 recruits in 36 states from the 2024 class. 668 enrolled at their D1 commit school.
One season later, 232 of them were no longer on that roster.
That's 1 in 3.

The college baseball recruiting calendar just changed.
D1: Quiet period. No off-campus evaluations or in-person contact.
D2: Recruiting continues, outside designated dead periods.
D3: No NCAA-designated quiet or dead periods.
My advice? Attend camps, visit schools, and build relationships.
But prioritize DEVELOPMENT.
Get stronger. Faster. More skilled. Become a better student. Build better habits.
Be better on March 1 than you are today. In every way.
Give coaches a reason to see you differently this spring.

Tonight, Murph pulled veteran William Contreras for not running out a ball to first.

Great read
In Division III, generally the only place a student-athlete might come back from is a cool summer internship. (Not an NFL training camp.)
Division III student-athletes are truly students first...certainly not professional athletes. They go to class and graduate.
And it's really high-level athletic competition. Check out a game in your favorite sport and you'll see.

BASEBALL NEEDS MORE DUGOUT GUYS.
Not bench players.
DUGOUT GUYS.
The kid who’s hitting .180 and is still the loudest dude when his teammate barrels one.
The starter who gets pulled in the fifth and is on the fence two minutes later.
The kid who picks up the catcher’s mask.
Grabs the helmet somebody tossed.
Meets the guy who scored at home plate.
Knows who’s due up.
Actually watches the damn game when he isn’t playing.
Nobody puts that on a Perfect Game profile.
There’s no exit velo for it.
No ranking.
No highlight video.
But ask any coach who’s been around long enough…
THOSE KIDS ARE WORTH THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD.
Everybody wants to be the guy.
Baseball needs more guys who are just as fired up when their teammate gets to be the guy.
