This is a bit sad -- but exciting if you turn it around. Think of it this way: we live in a time in human history when *not* launching a mission to Mars in a given launch opportunity is unusual! How unprecedented! We live in the future our ancestors could only dream of.
With the suspension of ExoMars, 2022 will be the first launch window to Mars without a Mars mission launching in it since 2009. (unless you count Psyche which will make a flyby after launching in September). The time before that was Fall 1994.

Very excited to see L'SPACE at #LPSC2022 today. This program was an amazing opportunity, and it's part of why I'm a PhD student now. It helped me realize my passion for mission science and development, and the value of communication between scientists, engineers, and policymakers
