I've always thought one of the coolest stretches of freeway is the 134 West thru Eagle Rock, with views of DTLA, the ocean, and Griffith Observatory on clear days. Just north of the freeway, Scholl Canyon Trail in Glendale is a higher perch of the view with a bit more quietude.

Lau killed Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, Matilde Moncada Ramos Pinto and their sons, one-year-old Joaquim and three-month-old Cauê. Judge Bruce Chan imposed an incredibly light sentence for the woman, in part because of his "feeling" that she feels bad about killing four people.

Stark and gut-wrenching example of the imbalanced scales of justice tipped in favor of drivers who kill someone with their vehicle in crashes that could have been prevented by responsible driving and safer street designs.

I just did the dumbest thing of my career to prove a much more serious point I hacked ChatGPT and Google and made them tell other users I’m really, really good at eating hot dogs People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I'll explain how I did it

Just awful. Cold, callous, awful. Solidarity with my fellow journalists and their families going through this today.
I was just laid off by The Washington Post in the middle of a warzone. I have no words. I'm devastated.

Here's my full piece about some of the questions raised internally about this story and concerns I heard from some CBS News staffers about it: theguardian.com/media/2026/j… (In an editorial call yesterday, Bari Weiss said the story was a high priority to pursue.)
There was discussion internally at CBS News about the specifics of the officer's injuries and whether more detail could be provided, I am told. "I'm no doctor, but internal bleeding is a very broad term and can range in severity," a CBS News executive said in an internal email. "A bruise is internal bleeding. But it can also be something serious. We do know that the ICE agent walked away from the incident -- we have that on camera."

New: Furloughed Dept. of Education employees discovered their out of office messages were manipulated blaming Democrats for a government shutdown "None of us consented to this. And it’s written in the first-person, as if I’m the one conveying this message, and I’m not. I don’t agree with it. I don’t think it’s ethical or legal. I think it violates the Hatch Act." nbcnews.com/politics/trump-a…

I’m Till Eckert, a ProPublica reporter. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been going to the same NY immigration courthouse. Nearly every time, I see ICE agents arresting immigrants. Today, a woman was slammed to the ground after begging officials not to take her husband away. Thread👇
