UPDATE: Township officials voted to revoke Trustee Annette Johnson's right to drive a township vehicle, after IndyStar reported on trips that critics say violated state law. They also declined to raise her roughly $109,000 salary. Read more: indystar.com/story/news/loca…
State law requires township trustees to use government vehicles for "official duties." But Pike Township Trustee Annette Johnson made multiple trips that critics say ran afoul of that law, including a candidate's campaign launch and a sorority brunch: indystar.com/story/news/loca…

Already worth noting: Long started in the role on Oct. 5, meaning she's released an average of just about 2.5 opinions per work day. For comparison, Ruby was appointed in March 2025 but didn't publish her first opinion until November.

Over the summer, @GraceRandolph_ and I reported on the Indiana Public Access Counselor's major delays and favorability toward govt. Since then, the leader resigned, a new one started, and more staff were lent. PAC Brittney Long has signed 43 opinions so far. Let's dive in.

The Indiana Parole Board heard hours of testimony on Weisheit's clemency petition. Lisa Lynch, the mother of Weisheit's victims, testified: "The jury sat in that courtroom, heard every piece of evidence, saw the absolute horror of what was done to my children."
Jeffrey Weisheit, who's set to be executed Nov. 5, will ask Gov. Mike Braun to pause all executions in the state in light of the botched execution of Christa Pike in Tennessee, where the governor has temporarily halted lethal injections. indystar.com/story/news/crim… via @indystar

Irvington's vibe is so strong that I was cosmically forced to adopt a black cat upon buying a home
Irvington one of few spots in city with that cache, long history, streets named after authors, events built around a time a year. But culture is not just a sense of community. Irvington developed its cultural cache from leaning into an identity — mind you, originally as a suburb. Irvington = halloween and spooks. Not sure many other places in Marion County outside Speedway compete on culture.
