Exciting data from a human malaria re-challenge model deciphering how humans become immunologically tolerant to falciparum #malaria. Big thanks to fantastic collaborators @spence_lab.
Muñoz Sandoval, Bach, Nahrendorf, Spence et al. @EdinburghUni show that a single #malaria episode reprograms T cell activation to minimize cytotoxicity and injury during subsequent infections. hubs.la/Q03g_jm10

Thanks to global immunisation efforts, an estimated 154 million lives have been saved over the past 50 years 🌎 🤝
That’s equivalent to 6 lives every minute.

NEWS: First vaccine against blood-stage malaria is well-tolerated and offers effective protection
The study showed that the new vaccine (RH5.1/Matrix-MTM) was well tolerated with no safety concerns, working by reducing the parasite level in the blood.
