. @kirstenmercer echoed what many survivors know: "the criminal system is not the best way" to deal with sexual violence. When cases end up in courts, "all too often, they are not being heard" due to "the length of time it takes to get them to trial." @SASCWR @WomensCrisisSWR

Lydia’s Law was set to be debated this afternoon.
PCs dispensed the bill to committee without notice or discussion.
Survivors of sexual assault deserve to be heard in the courts, and the Legislature.

Today I had the honour of speaking at the press conference at Queen's Park on Lydia's Law. There was supposed to be a hundred survivors and advocates, standing together... but the bill was dispensed to Committee, without public debate. 1/4

Six years ago on Jan 29, 2017, we witnessed the devastating Quebec Mosque Shooting, the darkest day in Canadian history for a house of worship. Six beautiful lives were tragically taken after evening prayers.Let's remember & honor them & work togetehr against hate & Islamophobia.

We are not surprised by yesterday’s targeted attack of a gender studies class at the University of Waterloo. It is an escalation of the rise in hate speech targeting trans and non-binary people which 2SLGBTQIA+ people have been ringing warning bells about.
