This is @NemethTreston and @BrentNemeth breeding cows at SB Nemo at 11:30 pm on a windy, 20-degree, January 5, 2025, snowy night.
Although it’s not as efficient at preg-checking as is our vet with her ultrasound machine when we work cattle in rapid succession, when checking just a few, this new Alertys On-Farm technology allows us to draw blood and quickly test chute-side on the front seat of a Chevy truck.
Dec. 9 rotational grazing of our breeding/calving farm location with this mixed group of bred and weanling heifers. There is some excellent grass waiting for them in the next paddock over.
Our @BrentNemeth appreciated the opportunity to speak about grass, water resources, and soil/environmental management at the September 2024 pasture walk meeting of the Eastern Ohio Grazing Council at SB Nemo Farm. For event photos: facebook.com/share/p/17y7QPB…
Today’s updated drought map. Human tendency is to think droughts require both hot and dry, but they can exist the same when air temps are freezing. This one continues to worsen. We will be in it now through Winter and then who knows into what additional seasons past that.

PLEASE VOTE FOR ME. Are you at least 18-years-old and reside or own property in Jefferson County, OH (JCO)? This Soil & Water Conservation District election is a special election separate from the Nov. 5 General Election. Please email the address (or phone the number) listed at the bottom of this attachment and request an absentee ballot. Can you also ask others in JCO to do the same? (There are only about 10-12 days remaining.) Thank you!
The cows are on Spring grass and we have started some new projects. One such project is the concreting of the alleyway between the holding pens.
The ground is drying-up and the day-time temps are in the mid 40s. The main herd has been on pasture since Jan 25, and, based on the long-term forecast, it looks like that might remain the case for at least another couple of weeks.🤞
