🚧 Sometimes, flooded roads can look harmless, but just a few inches of water can sweep your vehicle away. If you see water on the road, take a detour! Your safety is more important than getting there fast. Obey barricades. Don't drive through floodwater.

South Carolina is now a hands-free state, making it illegal to use or hold an electronic mobile device while driving. 📵
However, there are a few exceptions to the law. Drivers are permitted to use their phone while at a complete stop or to call for help in the event of a traffic or medical emergency.
For a full list of exceptions, please visit scdps.sc.gov/handsfree
Distracted drivers, beware!
With just one month left until law enforcement in South Carolina begins issuing citations for the Hands Free and Distracted Driving Act, now is the time to correct your distracted driving habit.
Avoid hefty fines, points on your license, and potential higher insurance rates by putting the phone down while at the wheel.
Citations begin February 28. For more information on the new hands-free law, please visit scdps.sc.gov/handsfree
South Carolina is now hands-free—but for truckers, it has been for years!
It's no secret that handling a mobile device while driving poses a risk to yourself and everyone on the road. In fact, using a mobile electronic device while driving is considered a serious offense for commercial driver's license holders when operating a commercial motor vehicle.
So be like a trucker and put away the phone before you drive.

It's fall back time! ⏰
With the sun setting earlier, here are a few tips to consider so you drive safely and help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe:
-Adjust your sleep schedule so you are well rested
-Turn your headlights on sooner in the evening so you are more visible
-Actively watch for pedestrians and cyclists out enjoying the autumn evenings.
And if you are out enjoying a walk or bike ride, be sure to wear light colors and reflective material so drivers can see you sooner!

Whether you're a driver or a passenger, you have a responsibility to yourself and others on the road.
Teen drivers, drive like your friends' lives depend on it. Buckle up, eliminate distractions, and keep your focus on the road.
Passengers, speak up if your friends' driving habits place you or others in danger. Avoid catching a ride with those whose driving makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
