Used La Liga stats to award Lamine Yamal best young player of the year over Pau Cubarsí Used the World Cup stats to award the Yasin Trophy to Unai Simon over David Raya. Used Bundesliga stats to award Ballon D’or to Harry Kane over Mbappé. Used Champions League stats to award club of the year. Use World Cup to award manager of the year. Ballon d’or in a nutshell. Zero consistency.

Following my post yesterday, @flyvaluejet has sent me an email, apologising for the experience, accepting that there were lapses, and offering compensation either as a 25% discount on a future flight or as immediate cash. I have to say that I am highly impressed by their communication and the remedial actions outlined in it. As a sucker for good customer service, I am now a fan. They just need to ensure that the procedural lapses identified are immediately fixed. Well done, @flyvaluejet.
I can’t remember which airline I was complaining about when some people told me to try Value Jet. They said they were quite reliable. So, I decided to try them today. Value Jet 4pm flight from Abuja to Lagos. Boarding was announced just after 4pm. We all got to the foot of the aircraft and the plane couldn’t take everyone. It turns out they had combined two flights. Some people were told at the foot of the plane that they couldn’t go on the flight. They took our hand luggages at the foot of the aircraft because the cabins, according to them, the cabins were full. We were not given any luggage tags. I asked and they said there was no need. As I boarded, they asked to see my boarding pass and said “Free seating after Row 8.” I asked, “What do you mean? I am in Business Class, seat 5A.” They found me a seat at 2A. When we were seated, they announced we were going to Lagos via Iperu, Ogun State. The lady Prof that sat next to me said we were taking the scenic route and we both laughed when they announced that we should sit back and relax.😀 When we got to Iperu, those of us going to Lagos were asked to stay onboard. It turns out that some people who were going to Lagos with us were planning to then go on to the Ijebu and Ikene axis from there. Given the unexpected detour to Iperu, they took the opportunity to disembark there. My process and quality assurance mind went to the integrity of the flight manifest. I had a window seat and just happened to see my hand luggage being taken to the terminal. Because it is an all-Aluminum case, it is rather distinctive and easily distinguishable. I had to shout. They said they would sort it out and would ask for all the bags to be brought back. That took another 10 minutes. When all the bags were brought back, we were then asked to disembark to identify our luggage. Some passengers had a few choice words for them.😀 They wondered what would have happened if I hadn’t seen my bag being taken to the terminal at Iperu. When we eventually re-boarded, they then made the usual apology for the delay “for operational reasons.” One guy shouted “Operational reasons kee you there!”😂 There were shouts of “fraud”, “scam” and “deceit” from the back. At 7:07 pm, three hours after boarding, we finally landed in Lagos. Somehow, I am not even in the mood to make wahala today. I just want to get to my hotel and have a cold beer.😀

Premier league fans, when will we give Arsenal the respect they deserve? These people just went to Bayern’s home and outplayed them and I am sure people will still find a way to discredit them. Whether we like it or not they are the best team in the Premier League

Bandit leader expels Zamfara community for refusing to mine for him Authorities in Zamfara, like other parts of northern Nigeria, have become numb to what is happening to their people. How can an entire community be expelled by a bandit leader and local authorities turn a blind eye, pretending not to be aware? No adequate shelter, no food, no acknowledgement of their condition. NOTHING. It's a crazy experience for people down there. icirnigeria.org/bandit-leade…

Christian youth leaders in Plateau State, Nigeria, credit joint Nigeria-U.S. counterterrorism efforts for saving lives. They disclosed that jihadist militants have seized at least 152 Christian hamlets and villages in the last two decades as part of a strategy to impose a caliphate in Africa’s most populous country. “Since the commencement of joint operations by the DSS, Mobile Police Force and Operation Rainbow, it has become clear that grazing cattle with batches of militants and terrorists carrying lethal weapons to attack hamlets and communities is a strategy of war and forceful occupation being unleashed on Plateau communities,” said the Plateau Indigenous Youth Bodies coalition led by human rights lawyer Solomon Dalyop.
