The whole premise of Star Trek is that technological progess and growth ends most of humanity's despair.
Capitalism and Communism become irrelevant ideologies that failed to solve scarcity. Humanity controls things at the atomic level. We can fabricate anything. Infinite energy.
If progressives believed this was our future, all their energy would be in AI, growth (abundance), sustainable resource extraction, and Elon Musk would be their hero.
But, this is not what progressives believe at all.
They believe AI should be contained, growth should effectively stop (except "afffordable" urban apartments), resource extraction should be extremely limited, and Elon should be in prison.
Really makes you think.
Silicon Valley emerged almost entirely in the suburbs and business parks in the 80s and 90s.
Only in the mid 2000s did everyone start relocating their HQs to SF to capture millennials who had been raised to hate the burbs.
I grew up in a neighborhood like this. It was fun when I was a kid, and then by the time you are a late teenager, you want nothing but to escape the boredom. So you move to the city, and the kids who stay behind become downwardly mobile. Longitudinal social mobility data bears this out. Suburban kids who don't leave end up poorer than their parents, and the opposite is true of urban kids.

Elsa Jean reveals how her former sugar daddy funded her entire life from age 18 including a $10k/month penthouse in Central Park.
“My OG sugar daddy that I don't speak to anymore, I mean, he has probably given me millions. I'm not joking.”
“He has carried my life. Paid for my whole entire life.”
“Whole entire life. That penthouse I had in New York that was in Central Park was him. $10,000 a month.”
I still can't believe this guy worked on the Jeb! campaign as comms director.
He was so badly mauled that he became a professional hater for over 10 years.
.@Timodc: "I could not be happier to endorse Abdul El-Sayed over the human trash that is Mike Rogers."
Everyone's talking about how much they like this guy, but the truth is we all hate the streamer.
Gen Z sucks man. Trash generation.
Aestheically, culturally, spiritually, and financially.
I’ve been red pilled, black pilled, white pilled, clear pilled. All the pills.
I don’t even know which one this is, but it’s one of the strongest ones I’ve had in a long long time. The desperation in his voice. You can see the sight of his kids in his eyes when he says he’s supposed to be home with them. You can see the math he’s doing in his head as he calculates how much money he has left, and how much he needs for his mortgage, and when it’s due.
What the hell is the American dream anymore? Is this what it’s about? Is there anyone who would say this guy isn’t working his ass off? For what? So that 25% of his income can go to a government that wastes it on a bunch of shit he didn’t vote for? Subsidizing the food he stocks grocery stores with for people who don’t work a 1,000th of how hard he works to buy groceries with EBT cards that he pays for, which then drives up the cost of groceries for him and his family that he pays for out of his paycheck because he’s doing it the right way.
This entire system is shit. It’s shit. There is no nicer way to put it. It is dog. shit.
This guy should be working a 9-5 at a job that gives him dignity so that he can be at home with his kids at a decent time. Instead he’s some jerk off’s content. His stressed out, end of his rope reaction is some asshole’s income.
This is bleak stuff. Absolutely bleak.
