As you probably know, Nami’s nickname, “Cat Burglar,” comes from the Japanese expression 泥棒猫 (dorobō neko). But Japan also has an old saying: 「猫が顔を洗うと雨が降る」, which means “When a cat washes its face, it will rain.” 1/3 #ONEPIECE

I think Nami’s origins have remained a mystery because they’re tied to the very core of the story. Revealing them too early could give readers too many clues, so it makes sense for Oda to save them for the final stretch of the story. #ONEPIECE
