Noah Gragson has consistently picked up Top 20 finishes throughout the second half of this season, something he attributes to the chemistry he and crew chief Grant Hutchens have built with each other. "We really have just been jiving it up, I guess, the second half of the season." Noah has a big chance to make a statement entering 2027 coming up at Homestead, a track he really enjoys and that he's excellent at. I also spoke with Noah about his and Todd Gilliland's participation in the attempt at the Guinness World Record for Ricky Bobby gatherings that came up just a little bit short at Talladega.

After asking Zane Smith about what it's been like racing his brother-in-law with Gray Gaulding's return to the Cup Series, I asked him about the mass fuel saving we saw in Stage 1 at Talladega in spite of NASCAR's efforts to keep that from happening. "It was certainly unique - We were running incredibly slow. I mean, quarter throttle at most for the guys that were in the back half plus. Just super slow, and then you just saw Brad (Keselowski) there at one point go wide open for a set of corners and drive to the lead. "Just, I feel like, how it is and what you've got to do and try to set yourself up for later." Zane estimated he only got to actually race for about five laps before the blown tire that spoiled his day. Also talked with him about how Front Row Motorsports as an organization has received Layne Riggs racing to try and win them another championship in the Truck Series.

Asked Todd Gilliland about the final restart at Talladega one day later, and also for his take on whether Kyle Larson went below the yellow line as he went by Gilliland while making the pass for the win. "I was pretty impressed, honestly, that he was even back in the picture. When I had gotten kind of shuffled to the middle in I think Stage 2, I was in literally the very back of the pack within seconds. So I was super impressed he was even back up there. "I think that's kind of what was my problem. I didn't really expect a ton of momentum coming from many guys behind me. I think first when the 33 pulled off, that kind of caught me by surprise. I went up to side draft the 24, and before I knew it - I think that's the biggest thing I'm replaying in my mind is I wish I would've gotten down to at least try and block the 5. "I think it probably would've ended in either a really good finish, potentially a win, or definitively a massive wreck. So I don't know if it's for better or worse, but I think that's probably the decisive, kind of winning move in my mind looking back is I wish I was paying a little bit more attention to that 5 car and that whole inside lane." Also asked Todd how NASCAR's no call on Larson influences how he regards and deals with the yellow line rule moving forward, and he felt the way NASCAR let the race play out "was the right way to do it."

Cleetus McFarland talking about his future NASCAR plans on Friday: "I've got an announcement in about a week for what we're doing next year. But I will say that some of the things that we have planned, that are pretty close to set in stone, are so cool and unexpected. Not only from a competitor's standpoint, there was things that I didn't expect to happen that we're gonna get to do. ... We've got some really cool stuff coming that is gonna make for a busy schedule next year for sure." 🤔
Cleetus McFarland says that his goal for today's Truck race is to finish the race and bring the truck home in one piece. Said it was "pathetic" that he only made six laps before crashing out at Daytona, "and I'm here to get some redemption." Cleetus also mentioned that being approved by NASCAR to do more things next year - like race in the O'Reilly Series on superspeedways - is a consideration for him. He says he has an announcement for next year coming in about a week, and that plans he has in the work "are so cool and unexpected."

Denny Hamlin says on Actions Detrimental that Riley Herbst's wrist is "not great" and "he's got some bumps and bruises" after his crash at Talladega yesterday. Hamlin said Herbst will be checked out this week and "We'll see how that goes."
With respect to Riley Herbst, I went and clipped the 35 team radio after his horrible impact. You can hear the immediate concern they had for Riley and they were also dissatisfied with NASCAR's response time as safety workers attended to Joey Logano's upside down car. Riley had his left arm wrapped after the race but told USA that he was OK.

SMT nonwithstanding, the onboard cameras/throttle trace/radio comms of every car in the field are commercially available. It has never been easier to see and vet what a driver/team were doing in a certain moment.
Two things from NASCAR: 1. They looked at the SMT data and Stenhouse, Byron and Custer were all wide open from Turn 3 to the end of the race (none of them lifted to let Larson win, in other words) 2. They say Larson's left-side tires were on the yellow line but never below the yellow line. So they reviewed that and say it's legal.

Funny thing about this video: I really couldn't see much of anything when the Logano wreck happened in front of me. I was holding my phone up high and glare was a factor so I was just going off glimpses of what I thought was happening I'm not super happy with how I jutted the camera up because I didn't know how Joey landed or if he hit anything in midair but at least he never left my frame. Just wild to see a crash like this and have my very own angle of it
BIG WRECK Joey Logano upside down

What I can't get over about yesterday's finish is how seemingly impossible it was for Kyle Larson to win coming off Turn 4, let alone down the backstretch. This is how legends are written and this deserves to get talked about the way Dale Earnhardt's comeback in the 2000 Winston 500 is.
WHERE DID HE COME FROM?!?! @KyleLarsonRacin goes from 11th to first to score the victory at @TALLADEGA!

Went and checked Brad Keselowski's onboard to review the response time from the AMR Safety Team to Riley Herbst - There's about 50 seconds between when I see the first safety vehicles deploy from the left to when I see a safety worker run over to Riley's car. So Riley had help within one minute of deployment. Bear in mind that I can't see if any other safety vehicles/workers came from the opposite end but I figured I should give this a second look in fairness to everyone involved.

Kyle Larson aces his post-race celebration, with son Owen standing up out of the roof with the checkered flag saluting the crowd Lots of drivers stop to congratulate Larson after his first Superspeedway win. As does Jeff Gordon.

Onboard view as Joey Logano goes from battling for the win to upside down in the closing laps at Talladega. Kudos to Joey's spotter, Coleman Pressley, for thinking quickly to tell his driver that he wasn't in danger of being hit by any other cars as he slid on his roof.
