The answer is to a) retain ILR at 5 years as was promised to these workers, b) end the tie to a single employer which just facilitates abuse, and c) radically improve pay and conditions in care so there isn't a huge supply gap in UK labour.
Exclusive:
Shabana Mahmood is fighting a rearguard action to save her migration reforms in the face of mounting public criticism from cabinet colleagues
The home secretary is under pressure to water down her plans to make it harder for foreign workers to claim permanent residence
Andy Burnham, the prime minister, is considering exempting care workers from plans to extend the qualifying period for claiming indefinite leave to remain (ILR) from five years to 15 years
However, the Home Office has argued that the move could backfire because it could lead to an exodus of foreign care workers from their jobs once they gained permanent residence and were no longer bound by the terms of their visas
A senior ally of Mahmood said she retained Burnham’s broad support over the plans: “Andy has been on Shabana’s side throughout this row over ILR. He is holding the line.”

This level of violence against Muslims is completely unacceptable.
Where are the strong condemnations, the emergency meetings, the taskforces to tackle it?

Replying to @ZoeJardiniere
They never mention the option of giving us work permits from day one. Because that option doesn’t serve political populism.

Extorting £10,000 from refugees is a perfect illustration of what this immigration bill is:
Pure performative cruelty.
All it will do is price out recognised refugees - who will live here for the longterm regardless - from becoming citizens & feeling that security & belonging.

A friend just told me they watched a news segment on Belfast and racism wasn’t mentioned once.
For editors out there in any doubt, when all Black people are targeted after the act of one Black person, that’s the definition of racism.

This is why UNISON opposes proposals to extend the Indefinite Leave to Remain period and calls for a sector-wide visa scheme for migrant workers in the care sector.
EXCLUSIVE: 'This country needed us - why is it changing migration rules to penalise us now?' Care workers trapped by government rule changes speak out.
The current sponsorship system isn't fit for purpose and is open to abuse by exploitative employers.
