Here, Peanut added 2 letters and at least 5 words. These samples were completed 5 days apart. The great thing is, he has a solid grasp on these letters, sounds and words. @DrTeresaSanders

Student bullying is alive, well and ignored in schools. Schools will avoid police and district intervention to hide bullying problems in schools. Bullying is also used to silence or nefariously remove adults from school environments. Parents included. Yep. It’s real.
You are gambling with your child's future.
Look at these numbers. They boldly show the world they aren't teaching children how to read. Yet, parents surrender their children to failure daily. Statistically, your child will never learn how to read in a public school.
America is still not ready to see that public edu is a taxpayer funded ATM for vendors, prisons and politicians. Thats not going to change. Ps will have to decide what they want for their kids and make that happen for them. Public edu is not it if you want a future for your kids.
Behaviors in the classroom. Thrown items. Flipped furniture.
Yelling. Crying. Screaming. Chaos. If there is one student off the rails, no one in the room is learning while the teacher attempts to get the behavior under control. Pic credit: NEA.org
Parents Ts judge you by how fast you respond to notes/calls, review folders, return homework and attend conferences. If Ts think you don’t care, it affects how much they care. Your child could be shorted in the classroom because of perceived apathy. It’s not right but it’s real.
Society and the people within continually evolve and change but the traditional classroom remains largely the same. Readers are now scrollers. Technology addiction is a thing. No one should be surprised when kids don’t neatly fit into the mold. We still have to meet their needs.
Map skills at five years old? Absolutely! Why not? And they nailed it. Their ability to memorize the United States map was absolutely fascinating. Raise that bar and they will try to reach it. Great job guys!
I enjoy making learning, engaging, interactive, and fun for nontraditional learners. Here, I created a space for my kids to rest when they they needed it. On the walls are pictures that can help them tell me how they were feeling if they were having difficulty finding worlds.
Officially opened in March 2020. Kicked off with this student in 2021. He was a little apprehensive at first, but warmed up nicely by the end of the day. I love what I do.
There is very little, if any, writing by hand in the traditional classroom. Work is largely completed on Chromebooks provided by the schools. Assignments are mostly electronic and are submitted directly to the teacher. Make sure your kids can write with pencil and paper.
A great way to delight your child and know what your child is learning in school is to show up unexpectedly. Plan to show up with a special lunch or treat to enjoy at lunch time with your kid. Let the focus be squarely on your kid for that time you are enjoying lunch.
Parents, don’t trust special education as your guarantee that your child is learning. Statistically they are not. Sped services are largely theatrics. no for yourself what your child is learning. Trust nothing you are told. Trust no grade reports. Don’t get lost in the illusion.
So proud of my former student who overcame mountains to graduate from university and became a TEACHER. When admin encourages you to not waste your time on a student and their family, ignore them.
And the winning continues. Here, David is ready the story he’s working on. This allows him to hear errors in his writing and gives him opportunities to learn new words. When given the support he needs he thrives. #lifeskills #autism #ESL #SPED
How does a student with disabilities win in the classroom? When their needs are met is how. It took just 18 months and individualized support to net this growth. Autism, intellectual disability, ESL, distance learning, were overcome by meeting needs.
