Here's your regular reminder that the @BloodyScotland crime writing festival is just a few weeks away. The programme is better than ever this year; and, if you can't travel, some events are available online through digital tickets. Details here: bloodyscotland.com/whats-on/

DON'T GIVE UP...to all the would-be WRITERS out there. The book shown here is one I wrote a long time ago, and it's the story that secured me my brilliant agent. It wasn't the right thing to get a publishing deal initially, but it's a tale I LOVED writing, with a character I still think about often. Historical fiction is a real passion for me, and I was able to combine it with crime, so it ticked all my boxes. I self-published the paperback, then it got an audiobook deal (narrated by the superlative Robin Laing, of course.) Today, my foreign rights agent agreed the first translation deal for this book. Not everything happens overnight. Very little of my writing career has progressed in exactly the way I thought it would. But if you write what you love, if you bring characters into the world you're passionate about, if your stories burn brightly enough, there is always the hope that one day people will read/hear them. So never give up on your writing dream, even when the going gets tough. Tomorrow is another day.

Thanks to @sbairden for reviewing The Cost (bit.ly/4j59aqM) - where she says:
'It's a belter.'
So I'm tagging @GerryCinnamon here for no other reason than I went to the same school as he did-King's Park Secondary-and saw him blow the audience away in 2017 @TRNSMTfest

I signed the open letter. My books were stolen by Meta billionaires to fill their coffers training AI that could put authors out of business. What’s the point of a copyright law if it’s not enforced? @Keir_Starmer
Authors have signed an open letter from the Society of Authors demanding that Meta be held to account by the UK government following allegations in the US that authors’ works have been used without permission or remuneration to train its AI model 👇 thebookseller.com/news/autho…
Quite a debate starting in @ukcrimebookclub. This really is the end of a beautiful friendship. Poe without Tilly is like @MWCravenUK without, well, Poe and Tilly.

ALT The image reads: Breaking M.W. Craven News … Twenty-first victim has been named as civilian analyst, Matilda Bradshaw. Former National Crime Agency analyst, Matilda (Tilly) Bradshaw has this morning been named as the latest victim in the sniper case plaguing the nation. #TheFinalVow #PoeandTilly #WashingtonPoe #TillyBradshaw

I, like many others, have had their work stolen by Meta to develop its AI systems. It feels like a bully taking your lunch money and not being able to do anything about it.
But, maybe we can…
