A couple of City’s wins haven’t been as impressive as they looked this season, the Villa loss wasn’t as bad as it looked. They’re ticking along very well for a team that’s got a new manager and many new players. Obviously need to improve, but who doesn’t? nytimes.com/athletic/7720238…

Anderson has been brilliant so far but he does fly around everywhere trying to put out fires, and that’s not ideal. Fernandez is a wanderer too and he’s not the most defensively plugged in, and neither is Cherki. They can kill teams with their talent but there can be problems too

that’s not the main issue when the goalkeeper and centre-back are making basic mistakes but I do think there will be some tinkering required as the season goes on. I think Anderson will probably learn to stick to his position more too (he has been told about that)

Maresca says on TV that he felt City did not deserve to lose. Says in press conference: "Because I think we deserved more from the game, for the amount of chances that we created and the amount of chances that we conceded."

Also quite ironic that City have won a few games that have been open and dicey and they have lost this one that they largely controlled
It was hardly a polished performance from City (a lot of wasted crosses that went straight out of play, for example) but they conceded from two basic errors (Guehi and Donnarumma) and had better chances and bigger threat than Villa. City should've done more after the Villa second and they were obviously rattled at the end but it wasn't a disastrous performance by any means

Was just typing this when Haaland scored: Ndiaye never, ever switches off. He's had a few unforced errors today, like that one, but as soon as he made it he was straight into the counterpress, he never misses a beat on that stuff

Bringing on Bouaddi at half-time would probably tighten things up quite a bit. The 19yo did an impressive job against PSG so it's not unreasonable to expect the same at Villa Park
